Definitely Lagrange. Went to their website yesterday, and their project brochure included this one under "Confidential Client" or something. I just went to the site now but I can't see the brochure anymore.

Why does Lagrange get hired? Are his interior floor plans really great? Does he just know how to design things that are cost effective?

I can’t believe that people actually like the architecture.

I would imagine the type of person that hires Lagrange is the type of person that would buy a unit at one of his condos (albeit with a vastly larger amount of wealth).

Some people like this kitschy throwback stuff. This tower, however, is almost overbearingly crappy. Lagrange really tried his best to make this turd stink as much as possible. Can't say the man isn't determined...

And more than 2 parking spots per unit.

Are any of you going to go to the community meeting and argue against this one? Might not be a bad idea. That’s 74 high end units that would compete with the vastly superior UCS.

^It looks like Elysian with way too much botox and jewlery on it. So it kind of fits in to the gold coast atmosphere. Lol.

It’s a travesty.

Wouldn't this replace Warren-Barr's garage? Some spaces may be for them.

318 South Clinton

I'm looking for a little info. I walked by the surface lot at 318 South Clinton today and was surprised to see a soil testing rig on the site. I know there was a proposal for the lot opposite this one on South Jefferson (link below), but I don't remember seeing anything for the lot on South Clinton.

https://chicago.curbed.com/2017/10/1...ment-jefferson

318 South Clinton is located right next to 547 West Jackson, which is one of my favorite buildings in the west loop. I'm hoping whatever goes in next to it is also nice/high quality/etc.

Anyone know anything?

I haven't heard anything, but it would be interesting to see what sort of development can be squeezed in there. Really odd lot lines, and a diminished street frontage. Any potential development might have to be somehow integrated with 550 W Van Buren or (more likely) 547 W Jackson.

^ Nice. I was able to find something under 320 S Clinton. 23 story hotel - permit pending. Last action was 11/6/2017 approved Planning Review.

"Description: DIRECT DEVELOPER SERVICES FOR FOUNDATION ONLY PERMIT FOR A 23-STORY HOTEL BUILDING ON CAISSON FOUNDATION WITH PARTIAL BASEMENT"

A little more into it showed me this article from 2010 which says it would be called the Chicago Toyoko Inn, which is a Japanese hotel chain that's lower cost (of about $100/night). The plans back then said it would be 615 rooms.

http://www.gazettechicago.com/index/...ting%E2%80%99/

Apparently Fioretti has been trying to block it for awhile, but maybe he's failed now or it won't be the Toyoko. Not bad considering now this is pretty close to OPO. This from just over 4 years ago:
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/reale...n-hotel-tussle

Quote:
In addition to Chicago, Toyoko is actively pursuing projects in New York City and Atlanta and is still negotiating financing for all three.

The company targets business travelers at hotels close to public transportation in Japan and South Korea who are looking for smaller rooms at lower rates.

Toyoko's Chicago project would provide rooms of 175 to 330 square feet for about $100 a night.
I found out that they're planning the hotel at 1260 rooms in Long Island City in NYC at 50 stories. From looking at pictures online of existing hotels in Japan, it definitely looks no frills and like something you'd find in Lower Manhattan at a low price, like a Holiday Inn or something.

From November 2011 from Curbed:

^ Many thanks. I guess there's no guarantee this is what the testing is for, but good to know a little background of the site.

There's a very good chance it's for a hotel, considering at the same exact address there's a pending new construction building permit for a 23 story hotel that was last reviewed just 3 months ago. Geotech Review is listed as Incomplete and I'm pretty sure soil testing is part of that. They were probably told to collect some more information. Let's just put two and two together...
