I've seen a different rendering that shows this being a much shorter building. Which is more recent?

That render in that link is the existing building that is already built.

This latest render shows the addition of the apartments that have been discussed earlier.

Atlanta's Rental Craze Extends To Serenbe

Quote:
Serenbe is bringing a bit of Cabbagetown to the sticks. Promising "Loft Living. Redefined." the bucolic farmstead community about 40 minutes southwest of downtown is rolling out a mix of 23 apartments and condos called The Textile Lofts, with rents up to $2,400 per month. The lofts will offer studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom luxury apartments and condominiums, with architecture inspired by turn-of-the-century textile mills. At 625 square feet, the studios will rent for $990 per month or sell for $209,000. On the larger end, the 1,250 square-foot two-bedroom units will rent for $2,400 and sell for $399,000. Perks include "10+ foot ceilings, open chef-style kitchens and large windows with beautiful elevated views of the Serenbe community," the project's website states. Promotional materials bill The Textile Lofts as "coming soon" but don't give a specific opening date. The high demand has apparently prompted a waiting list.

My understanding is that it is a new render and new building as well... to be built on the sliver of land between the existing hotel and Marietta and Luckie.

Yeah, I should have been more clear, sorry.

This is the existing building:

This is the new building going in that sliver of land pretty much attached to the existing one: (It will be behind the building in the first picture, to the left)

"For owners and residents of the property, The Textile Lofts provide an elevated private outdoor living area complete with a fire pit, spa, and courtyard where residents can sit with their neighbors and friends while enjoying the beauty of the natural environment around them. From this private space residents can observe the greater community, while choosing not to engage with it."

Never engage with it!!!

Also, I hate this "Camden Yards-ish" faux mill idea. (ETA: Just as others in this thread rightly hate fake historicism.

Which project will have the biggest impact on atlanta

Now that the State Farm project is officially underway, which of the current projects will have the biggest impact on Atlanta in the next 5 years? Impact defined as number and types of jobs; enhancement of the built environment ; creation of new economic / entrepreneurial opportunities; or, enhancing Atlanta's status in the global economy. Here are my candidates, ranked by their estimated cost in 2014 dollars, are there others:
  • THE ATLANTA BELTLINE. $20 billion
  • STATE FARM. $2billion(est)
  • 12th & MIDTOWN. $1.2 billion
  • NEW GEORGIA DOME. $ 1.2 billion
    • BUCKHEAD ATLANTA. $1.2 Billion
  • 98 14th STREET. $650 million
  • AVALON. $ 600 million
  • EMORY POINT. $250 million
  • PONCE CITY MARKET. $200 million

I would say as far as built environment, and creation of new economic/entrepreneurial opportunities, I'd go with The Beltline. PCM is a strong second, but to me its somewhat apart of The Beltine. As far as enhancing the global status, you didn't mention Buckhead Atlanta, but I believe that Buckhead Atlanta will have a major impact as far as global status, with the Beltine, being a strong second. Buckhead Atlanta really only being a high end attraction/destination.

I quite like new historicism but creating a false smoke stack is stupid. The rest is fine.

I wish Atlanta had better historic architecture but everyone seems to love bland glass buildings with no ornamentation. Lame.

Well I've been watching it, I go to that Publix like twice a week. They seemed to slow down recently, but I assume they were doing the parking ramps in the back going into the ground. Hopefully they'll be crackin in the upward direction soon.

I say all of them because all of them make a different impact on different things.

The Landmark building is quite nice-- Hope it happens-- getting like pre recession times-- maybe even more intense-- let's hope we're just catching up and not overbuilding

Just to look at a photo of skyline one might think this way, but anyone who is more aware of Atlanta's historic districts knows better. Atlanta actually has some great historic architecture, but most of it is not visible on the skyline.

What's lame is that a person 'from' here would make such a ridiculous remark.
