I was driving home from work today and it looks like 7-eleven at Winnipeg and Victoria Ave has finally closed. All signage down, and paper covering all the windows. Next up, the location on Broad St and 14th Ave.

No surprise about the Vic & Wpg location. As for the Broad & 14th one, is that wishful thinking? I know it attracts a few 'loiterers' outside, but it still seems to do a lot of business.

Does anyone think this will in anyway negatively impact Milky Way as who knows what will happen to that corner now.

I know everyone has nostalgia for it but I have never liked the location of Milky Way. IMHO I would honestly prefer if they would move somewhere nicer although that could affect the nostalgia factor if they were in a new location.

Because of this I prefer to go to Dessart Sweets which has a nicer setting and more areas to go sit in like the church across the street.

Milky Way is trash and purely nostalgia-driven but its central location is not the issue. There are many better options for ice cream.

I don’t know what that poster was getting at, but I’m surprised it’s stayed open as long as it has. I thought it would close when the one at Vic and Arcola opened. There’s a Petro Can across the street and another 7-11 a 10 minute walk away. It would be nice if more of a true neighbourhood grocery filled that spot rather than a “convenience store” whose main business is junk food, cigarettes, and lottery tickets.

SaskPower is moving forward with its large, $26 million battery installation on Fleet Street to support renewable energy projects. Apparently the Feds gave a grant. This is likely to work with the large nearby solar project. The key to successful solar is to move as much generation as possible from midday to the 5-8pm peak consumption period.

https://www.saskpower.com/about-us/m...storage-system

For those who say renewables are already competitive with traditional baseload sources, 100% of costs such as this are attributable to renewables, as are a significant proportion of the cost of the traditional baseload plants that have to sit on standby for the intermittent renewables. I support renewables, but people need to understand that they are not cheap.

No, I talked with someone in management with 7-eleven Canada and he said they are slowly closing problem locations. Regina Dewdney by old Taylor Field, Albert atAvonhurst, Broad at 2nd Ave and now the Vic and Winnipeg St. I have heard from the same person that the 14th and Broad has an enormous amount of shrinkage from shoplifting and then of course the multiple stabbings, 1 shooting and loitering the past 3 years at that location. He said it's a matter of time for that one. So time will tell.

Hmmm, does that mean it's possible a couple of new locations will open up?

Just glad to hear that the 7-Eleven on Rochdale is spared.

Ya they'll just open them in the urban sprawl areas. That Rochdale is one of the top in Saskatchewan he said.

Now the situation is somewhat different in Regina with Harvard's offering of (generally) modern office space. However, one still wonders if a developer was to take the "If we build it, they will come" attitude, would the same "flight to quality" occur in Regina?
Didn't the Govt of Sask force Nutrien(Potash Corp) to keep the head office in Saskatoon and thus resulting in that being built? It would be nice if Regina had a scenario with a company like that but no chance.

Regina had that scenario with Wascana Energy, but the head office became a shell of just some heads and then eventually Wascana Energy was bought out and everything was moved.

In the end, companies want to be someplace or not. Forcing scenarios rarely work out in the end. Business evolves and the best thing Regina can do is implement policies that make companies want to be here.

That was one of the provisions when they blocked the sale of PCS to BHP in 2010. However, PCS/Nutrien operated in the PCS tower (later renamed Nutrien tower) in Scotia Centre for a decade prior to the announcement of their move to River Landing. Their move to RL didn't come about until well after that project had started, but Nutrien's decision to re-locate certainly accelerated the construction of the 2nd office tower.

Not sure I buy this for all the locations. Some of these were closed because they were at leased locations with enviromental contamination.

Provincial budget invests in Queen City

The Highways around Regina will be getting some improvements as twinning projects for Highways 6 and 36 near Regina and Weyburn will be their planning and pre-construction phase.

SaskPower will be beginning construction on the Logistic Warehouse Complex that will centralize regional services and support around the Regina area, SaskEnergy is planning the expansion of the Regina East and West transmission system, and through SaskWater, the Government is investing $52.7 million to support significant industrial growth in the Regina region.

Mayor Sandra Masters said she was excited about the investments made into the City.

“There looks like some increased funding in terms of municipal projects, so we are kind of hoping to be in on that,” she said. “We know there is going to be some money spent on highways around the City of Regina, which is really helpful considering some of the economic announcements we’ve had in terms of the transportation hub.”

“There is an increase in spending for mental health and addictions, which is incredibly needed, the urgent care centre for both Saskatoon and Regina; we know we need one of those here, so that’s pretty fantastic,” she continued.
