Office vacancy is much lower in London's suburbs, and I know some employers have vacated downtown in favour of suburban offices since the pandemic. As an example a friend of mine used to work downtown for a large employer but his company's London office relocated to West5 about a year ago. Which is unfortunate because public transit to that part of London is almost nonexistent and now pretty much requires everyone to drive, but from what I've heard the staff are overall happy with the move. In my friend's case his commute time has been cut in half.
I've been into downtown London a couple of times this year and it just feels so...dead. I went into Citi Plaza and was shocked at the vacancy. And I lived in London in the days Eaton's closed down and Galleria was rapidly losing tenants, but it wasn't
this bad. The only thing to even eat in the food court now is Subway. Both times I was downtown there was someone walking around yelling at themselves or at others.
