The only project currently under construction is the Eglinton line between Kipling and Mount Dennis and the only fully funded project is the one-stop Scarborough subway. These are the facts. The map is fantasy.

The only fantasy, is if you think the map is a fantasy.

Take a good hard look at the map, read the legends, the only unbuilt portions are the BRT's which have been added, and to be honest, I haven't heard that much on the BRT's, The DRL, and the Jane LRT.

You must have tons of photos of all these projects that have already been built or are under construction. Please post them so that we can all coordinate with the map.

Guy, did you hit your head on the same rock as this dude?

When you look at he map in entirety, what is built and UC/Funded the majority of the fantasy lines are BRT's , then the DRL and Jane. What you mention, are still minor line add on's when viewing the totality of the map.

These two are fully funded and have provincial support. There's still the machinations of politics but I definitely wouldn't call them 'fantasy'.

Finch to Richmond Hill subway will happen pretty quickly once/if/when the DRL gets real momentum; it's relatively cheap and very politically valuable and the capacity issues that the DRL is solving are the only real obstacle.

Money was available for Scarborough transit, with the current project cost of the one stop subway, there is no money left. Any link to that?

Scarborough Subway extension has money tied to it but it has not been fully costed out. There will be steep cost increases the city will have to pick up. The thing will cost $4.25 billion likely (which would make it the most expensive subway project in history on a per/km)

I still don't believe the thing will ever get built as the costs will be to large to politically sneak around, a large funding pool will have to be gathered and the city is limited outside of rasing taxes.

What makes you think that? Why would it be so expensive?

The eastern extension of Line 5 to UTSC was funded with the cost savings from scaling back the Scarborough subway from 3 stops to 1 stop.. furthermore the likely incoming Ontario government has pledged $5B in additional funding for TTC expansion, including a full coverage of the cost of the Scarborough subway, conditional on remaining LRT commitments in Scarborough being followed through.

The western extension of Line 5 to the airport is funded by the province and the feds, as part of the SmartTrack deal.

Basically wishful thinking so far as the subway is already overbudget. We can stop talking about the fantasy map now.

Nice picture of Rideau Station's west entrance (stainless-steel doors at the end of the white canopy).

More pictures of the Rideau Centre expansion can be found at the source;
