The University of British Columbia Advisory Design Panel have unanimously approved a new residential project consisting of a 16-storey tower and eight, 3-storey city homes. The project site is flanked by Ross Drive on the south, Gray Avenue to the northwest, and Webber Lane on the northeast side. A variety of unit types are being proposed ranging from studios to 3-bedroom suites. The project also includes an expansive outdoor courtyard, social space, and a children’s play area. Notably, the tower’s overall facade treatment places a significant emphasis on a striking tension and duality between faces. On one face, a softened horizontal expression hugs the outdoor courtyard, while the other side presents a contrasting vertical and rigid expression facing the city homes.
