For those in the GTA, we were in for a treat today with the sun coming out, and blue skies for the first time in a few days. Perhaps this sounds silly for those on the West Coast, but it's a little exciting weather-wise since we've seen so little snow this winter.
The high was -3C officially, but the thermometer at the local childcare facility in my old neighbourhood of west Mississauga said -1C.
I went for a walk later in the day,

Was nice having the sun shining through the window while working but not so pleasant when going out, especially since there was a wind chill. Actually had to put a coat on when going to the shed for a couple of minutes or whatever. But man, it was was relief to actually see the sun.

Finally some sun.

-6C with a wind chill of -13. Ok with this colder weather if it brings sun.

Up to 2C last night. It did snow and there was a trace of white on grassy surfaces. It's not even enough to call it a snow cover.

The warmspot was Vancouver, BC at 11.5C. That is the new highest temperature in the country.

Warmest low was Race Rocks, BC at 7.7C.

Seeing a forecast of 42F and rain for Wednesday in Burlington, VT as per NWS.

EC showing temperature around freezing.

Same thing for Windsor (close to freezing on Tuesday as per EC) vs Detroit (41F as per NWS).

Gonna trust NWS over EC ever single time.

After a drizzly morning the clouds cleared and we had a beautiful afternoon.

Thursday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 8 C, the low was 7 C.

No snow at all so far after this morning's brief flurries Surely this can't happen twice. I'm sure it's coming.

Christmas is put away. A day or two early but that's fine I did put it up November 1 after all.

Still waiting for snow to start lol

EDIT: Still no snow There's even blue sky on the horizon outside the harbour. But I'm sure it's coming. They wouldn't give us two sunny snow days.

EDIT: Snow is starting.

-8C in Moncton at 9 AM - a front went through last night and it was quite windy and brought in the cold air. We received about a cm of snow.

Long range still shows no significant snowfall in Moncton for the next two weeks. This will take us past mid January. Very strange.

It was very strange for me to see some blooming daisies the other day, in freaking January. One was a Black Eye Susan, and the other was a foot high daisy weed, covered in blooms. I’ve seen flowers still blooming into December, but never January. December was mild, but I didn’t think it was that mild to have some plants still blooming.

yahhh we got a dusting of snow last night, 1-2 cm but we'll take it. Temps are starting to drop so at least we get the normal winter air temps now. Listening to people today and in the office, and there is a bit of a sense of relief that we finally have winter.

December reminded me of Vancouver or England, dark and cold but not freezing enough to kill everything. There is the odd splash of colour as a few plants and flowers struggle on through the winter

1:40 p.m. and the storm that shut everything down today hasn't even whitened the roads yet lol

EDIT: It's now JUST covered the road. Already cars are giving up trying to get up my hill and turning around to go back. Liquor stores are closing at 6 p.m. and they're generally one of the last things to give up.

Some of my outdoor plants are still alive and healthy. We had warm spells before in Dec-Jan, but usually they would already have been killed off by a cold snap or two prior. Not sure they will survive the colder temperatures this week though. 3-4 days straight of negative temperatures will likely push them into dormancy, especially without a snow cover.

Are you gonna bring them indoor?
I’m hoping for some consistent negative temperatures so Rideau Canal will be opened for skating this year.

No, they’re in the ground, so they just stay out. I do keep a few potted plants in my garage through the winter though. And I don’t think Rideau canal is opening at all this winter. If I were the NCC, I think I wouldn’t bother trying at all. I walked by a section of the canal last week and water was flowing through the locks with no ice to be seen. And the colder temperatures we’re experiencing right now won’t be enough. I see a few highs above 0 in the long range forecast. It’s just going to be a big waste of time and money at this point.

And it looks like there is some more snow on the way based on the 7 day EC forecast, so hopefully we can finally get some snowpack going.

TWN has Toronto dipping into it's first real cold snap of the season next Saturday; highs around -3 to -7, lows around -10.

Today is very boring, typical January weather. -1, overcast, occasionally flurry,

Metrobus is coming off the roads at 9 pm. That's the first time this winter, and this is finally a real storm.
