Remember, NYC almost always gets less than the burbs. (North and west and sometimes east too.)

They expect cladding of the Pavilion to begin and be completed by Sept 11th of this year, so it will be the 3rd building at the WTC site to take shape visibly.

Ny Guy I Was Noticing That There Is A Small Roof Cover Over The Memorial Building Which You Don't See In The Rendering....looks Like Maybe An Acess To The Roof.....

Milestones Keep WTC Transportation Hub on Track
Progress continues through the winter

The three new towers are not the only construction sites making good progress in the World Trade Center (WTC) east bathtub. The WTC Trans­portation Hub, designed by renowned architect San­tiago Calatrava, also has reached several milestones this winter, with more than 2,800 tons of permanent steel now erected in the station.

The Port Authority reports that construction of the iconic structure’s signature sweeping arches had made major progress -- on their way to forming the Hub’s mezzanine level. Erection of the north, south, and center span arches also has been completed. Other recent progress in­cludes installation of the Hub’s northwest “supercolumn,” which is a key pillar for providing the structure’s distinctive open­ness.

Meanwhile, construction of the East Box Girder contin­ues and welding is commencing. The mas­sive steel girder is essentially an un­derground bridge to permanently support the 1 train subway box in place while allowing commuters to travel below it. It will link the main Transit Hall area with the east-west connector -- serving as part of the future pedestrian concourse that will stretch as far west as the World Financial Center, and as far east as the Fulton Street Transit Center’s William Street entrances.

The WTC Transportation Hub will restore and enhance the PATH station that existed prior to September 11, 2001. It has been designed to accommodate 250,000 pedestrians per day. The existing tem­porary PATH station, with access at Vesey Street and West Broadway, accommodates approximately 50,000 pedestrians per day.

When are they going to begin work on the primary Calatrava-designed transit hub, the one visible from street level? I'm worried about it because I know the price tag has scared politicians, and after seeing New Jersey pull the plug on the Hudson river NJTransit tunnel, I won't feel comfortable about this hub until it's finally complete.

They've been working on that for a long time already. It's the construction between towers 2 and 3. That in itself is not actually the transit hub (which is below the memorial), but it is the centerpiece of it.

Yes, I know...that's exactly why I made the distinction. It's the centerpiece I'm most interested in. When are they scheduled to begin work on that section?

This is a good question. After seeing the sublevel plans for the whole site posted recently, I understand the relationship of the different transportation hub areas a lot better, and I realize that most of the essential infrastructure is actually underneath the WTC memorial. But I also wondered why there was not more visible work on the prominent part of the hub that everyone wants to see, the one between towers 2 and 3. This was especially surprising because there has been so much visible work recently on the footings of towers 2 and 3, whereas the future hub entrance area seems practically untouched.

Is it because the hub entrance area requires the lower levels of towers 2 and 3 to be completed in order to support it on the northern and southern sides? Is it too crowded down there to work on all three simultaneously? Or is this a money issue as Don098 suggested?

They are working in that section. It will reach street level summer of next year. You can read the quarterly reports for more specifics.
