Street level in LA is already rock bottom, homeless encampments everywhere downtown with trash to boot. Might as well build for the people who actually pay to live in the city, not the free dwellers, and towers do that in spades! Keeps the people far away from the streets.

The Regional Connector light rail station u/c on Bunker Hill. Pedestrian bridge construction also started that will take people from station to Broad/Music Center and Grand Avenue.

Some of you need to simply come by my place and have a drink...maybe more. Lol
Some of you have so much negativity, it’s clear you’re not happy with your own homes. It’s LA, SF, NYC....there’s homeless everywhere. There are nice parts of Hollywood, DTLA, etc. and there are definitely homeless. People with money can enjoy all what LA offers. That’s all I will say.

Yea, I drove around with a buddy to Griffith Park and then out to Ventura county and Malibu and then into Woodland Hills etc on Topanga Canyon etc.
It was incredible. The scenery in Ventura Country is amazing for a suburban area on it's own. Griffith Park and environs were so packed with people enjoying everything, it was fantastic. I have no idea why Griffith doesn't get the credit it deserves. It is a top 5 or 3 park in America, easily.

This city/metro is really special if you actually take it in instead of thinking of some tents in some areas.

Here's a photo from last Friday. You can see some of the new projects already in the skyline.

Wow, didn't expect to be able to see Perla from that viewpoint.

I have some balances on a couple of Apple Store gift cards. Totally going to wait until this store opens to redeem them. Probably for something I totally don't need...

Which is most Apple products these days lol

To that note, on one hand I’m glad they’re opening this store, but I just hope they plan on installing some sort of mall/style rolling shutters for all the storefront windows and doors. The zombies wondering around at night may not be the sharpest tools in the shed but I’m sure they know the value of Apple products.

Ppl over 80 yrs ago, and the original owner of the tower, would have been shocked to see what would happen to dtla 2 or 3 generations later. LA back then was both less wealthy....less world class....but also somehow fancier than today.

jdrcrash's post also hints at the reason for the saying, 'this is why we can't have nice things.'

things are starting to come slowly out of hibernation, so dt hopefully will reemerge not too weakened by the past 13 months.

Maybe the two of you and the others could knock it off with the disgusting dehumanization of homeless people ("zombies" and the like).

Besides being incredibly gross, you're also completely wrong. DTLA transformed for reasons that have nothing at all to do with homelessness.

In no way was my intent malicious in painting such a negative picture of the homeless crisis or the homeless themselves, nor was I implying they're stupid. To the contrary, a few of them are very intelligent and even know how to do something as technical as tapping into another property's electricity/internet. All i'm saying is some of them are just way out in left field. Deepest apologies

That being said, as someone who personally works around these characters AND cleans up after them on a daily basis, I can tell you from anecdotal experience that a VERY LARGE portion are NOT there simply because they had a "string of bad luck". It's far more complicated than that. Have you tried talking to some of them?

EDIT: As someone who takes medication, I actually have sympathy for many of them, as more often than not they're already suffering from some form of mental illness (depression, anxiety, ADD and the like). All it really takes is to get high on some prescription meds (paxil, adderall) and next thing you know you're looking for the next high (PCP, LSD, ecstasy, acid, meth, crack, magic shrooms), you lose your job for showing up late, you stop cleaning up your apartment. Eventually that road is gonna lead you to the streets.

Plans for a DTLA supertall were quietly shelved. What happened?

https://therealdeal.com/la/2021/03/1...what-happened/

Used up all my free reads, anyone else want to paraphrase?
