The guy skipped town. His house will likely be for sale for a long time as there are not many Winnipeggers in the market for a $5.5 mil home. Could be wrong since it's a nice place with a large lot.

Did the ~$12 mil mansion down the street ever sell. IIRC it was down to $8 mil last time I saw and that was probably a couple years ago. I don't think it's listed anymore.

Vike posted a picture of his house with a for sale sign weeks, maybe months ago and named him. It's OK, his family is long gone, it's not exactly top secret stuff.

It's one of those best kept secret things. All the locals knew he lived there. I just never bothered to dig in on where the players live. Some people like to do that kind of stuff.

You could easily find out if a player owned property in their own name with a title search. I wouldn't be surprised if you could just go down the list and find that information out pretty fast. Unless the property was held by a different person or corporation, it would be easy to find out.

Most cities in North America aren't getting those mega full service hotels that were built in the 70s/80s.

No urgency at all to actually fix problems around here but the tax payers can afford to subsidize luxury hotel rooms.

The subsidy stimulated construction, creates employment, adds to the urban architectural fabric and helps fill a vacancy. All the construction material, services and employment are taxed. Even the profit from the hotel and any dividends to shareholders are taxed. These new revenues flow to the government for services including drug treatment.

These type of expenditures adds to the well being of our city.

I'm not sure that we did... a few hotels, mostly around the airport, have been occupied for shelter use on a semi-permanent basis over the past few years (COVID-related, provincial natural disaster related such as flooding and fires, refugees from abroad, etc.), but they have maintained their hotel status. I'm not aware of any hotels that were converted to shelters. There has been some hotel space downtown lost to closure/demolition (mostly low-end) and conversion to residential (former Sheraton) but I'd guess that it has had a relatively low impact.

I don't know if there's anyone tracking this or that this has been mentioned somewhere, but a couple things.

WFPS Station 15 and the former library next to it in Windsor Park is now completely gone as of a couple weeks ago to make way for the new fire station at site, as part of the city's consolidation plan to consolidate Station 9 on Marion St. with Station 15.

Also the new apartments across the parking lot is pretty much complete, apart from having the interiors being done. Slated around the fall for occupancy.

Thanks for the insights esquire. I’ll be curious which one finishes first, but knowing the usual slow pace of construction here it’s a toss up I’d say.
