Do you really think they would leave San Franciso/Cupertino to come to Atlanta???

OK - so we live in a period where a Global Fortune 500 company with $6 Billion in revenue can ask a State funded school for $30 Million, but the general population is labeled the "Entitlement Generation" for asking for frivolous things like affordable healthcare, unemployment benefits and food stamps.

It's time we send these pampered, arrogant and "entitled" CEO's a message - F U.

Holy Shnikes, these MF's got $96 Million to move here. Next they will want the State of Georgia to pick up the payroll cost of their GA employees.

Georgia Tax Breaks for NCR Get Costly
August 31, 2009

States continue to hand out targeted tax incentives, many of which are turning out to be far more costly than the original estimates.

Such is the case with the State of Georgia’s tax breaks to attract technology firm NCR to the state. The incentives were worth at least $96 million, far above the $60 million estimate made when the deal was announced, according to a recent report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

From 1990 to 2000, only 14 percent of all real estate investment was occurring in metro Atlanta’s existing or emerging Walk UPs. From 2001 to 2008, the market share of the region’s development in Walk UPs increased to 26 percent. And since 2008, the market share of development dollars in existing and emerging walkable urban places in metro Atlanta has catapulted to 60 percent.

I don't know if this article was previously posted, but here you go. The pendulum is swinging on the other side.

Based on this article it was $109M:
http://www.ajc.com/news/business/total-incentives-for-baxter-plant-top-200-million/nQTNj/

What I love about all of this is that the CEO doesn't live/work here. We hand the guy 9 figures (kept his company profitable during the recession) and he can't be bothered to relocate. When he joined on in '05, they were going to require him to move to Ohio but he kept taking the private jet to Dayton and setup offices in NYC so he didn't have to move. He then convinced the city to give him millions in incentives to keep an office in the city where he already lived.

I saw we send them packing. We could go halfsies on Google Fiber and do a whole lot more for economic development than pay up to these extortionists.

Well, as long as CEO's are continued to be rewarded with salaries that are several hundred times that of the average company worker we should expect this kind of behavior. Of course I believe the work of a CEO is important and should be reasonably rewarded, but my definition of reasonably starts to deteriorate at the 1 million/year point.

Novare eyes key Midtown corner for new tower

Novare Group intends to buy a nearly 1.5-acre site at West Peachtree and 14th streets, near One Atlantic Center and Atlantic Center Plaza, according to several sources familiar with the plan. The property today houses low-rise buildings with tenants such as Einstein Bros. Bagels and Zipcar.

Reed: Braves could extend lease, but must be 5 years

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed says the Braves could stay longer at Turner Field should construction fall behind on the team’s new stadium in Cobb County. The catch is that the team must commit to five years.

I would love to see these country bumpkins hoisted by their own petards.

I'm guessing that they would still be able to "buy out" the lease with Atlanta to leave in the middle of the 5 year contract?

The drama is not going to be between the City of Atlanta and the Braves. The drama is going to be between Cobb county and its Rand Paul voters when the costs rise.

You shouldn't make those statements. Especially to classify so many people that do not have the same mindset. But this forum has been bias when it comes to name calling people outside the city, but it hurts their feelings when people say anything that could be offensive towards the people in the city.
