Phipps Plaza renovation render

An upgraded LED lighting, repainting the interior, new warm wood accents, an updated railing system, luxury soft seating and lounging areas with Wi-Fi connectivity and chargers, upgraded restrooms, and the installation of a hotel-like concierge service center.

Beltline officials: construction of Eastside Trail extension through Reynoldstown could start in July

Quote:
Ever since Atlanta Beltline officials announced that the Eastside Trail's expansion would be postponed until one of the city's most dilapidated bridges was rebuilt, residents of Cabbagetown and Reynoldstown residents have patiently waited for construction crews to start work on the segment.

Their dreams of enjoying the simple pleasures of biking and jogging on a 15-foot-wide concrete path - and being better connected to the Old Fourth Ward, Inman Park, and other neighborhoods along the wildly popular trail - were put on hold.

That progress is moving along. Last night, Kevin Burke of Atlanta Beltline Inc., the nonprofit tasked with planning and developing the project, told residents and business owners that construction could begin in July or early fall - and, once started, take 18 to 24 months to complete. He presented the project design, which is halfway done, to more than 30 people.

i've posted this on several sites already, but they need to use warmer lighting indoors. the recent remodel of lenox leaves the inside looking like a hospital. CREE makes excellent warm coloured indoor lighting. leave the white and bluish lights for outdoors.

I suspect cold(er) lighting is used in public spaces for a reason. The idea is not to linger longer in said common areas.

The space looks nice, but that's probably existing. Those finishes are god awful. Those zebra-ish patterns? Gaudy as hell.

They should really be highlighting the tenant spaces more. You barely even see them. There's too much going on.

The LED lighting available when Lenox was designed a couple/few years ago was more limited in styles and color spectrums. The lighting in Lenox is probably closer to 4000k-5000k light spectrum, which is bluer....but the current strong LED market has opened up more options in the 3500k range, which is warmer in color spectrum.....and with many more styles available.
That is why you can now buy LED's for your home which look like incandescent lamps. Examples of typical spectrums -

Incandescent lamps - 2,700–3,300 K
Daylight - surprisingly closer to 6000k

That concludes the boring lighting lesson for today.

I wonder how this would work and when they plan on doing it?
"Several other projects are also being planned to commence in the near future. Improvements are being contemplated to the property's prominent entrance along Peachtree Road which will include a new dramatic entrance, a dynamic streetscape filled with luxury storefronts, and new lush landscaping."

Oh I pray that what I am seeing from the renderings is NOT the final product. That design scheme is ABSOLUTELY DREADFUL! It is extremely busy and GAUDY! I could have come up with a better design for half the cost. It is definitely not befitting the clientele that visits Phipps.

The interior design needs some tweaking.

I can't tell whether those are zebra-skin beanbag chairs or entrance tubes to the Underworld.

New retail investment in Atlanta

With the "rebranding" of the Restoration Hardware project, now known as "Restoration Hardware at the Estate in Buckhead." (The branding previously displayed Restoration Hardware at the Estate at Buckhead), there is now a definite trend of new retail investment in Atlanta. The $1.2 billion 12th & Midtown project; the $1 billion Buckhead Atlanta project; the $ 600 million Avalon project and, the $ 250 million Ponce City Market project all promise new and exciting retail coming on line at a time when retail in general is having difficulties. There will be hits and misses but this trend line's trajectory is in a very positive direction and that speaks well for Atlanta's future growth and development.

It’s official: Major League Soccer will expand to Atlanta

With Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber and the league’s newest owner arriving at Wednesday’s announcement via helicopter, MLS confirmed that Home Depot co-founder and Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank would own the league’s 23rd franchise, adding Atlanta to the list of new teams that will anchor the league’s efforts in the U.S. Southeast. Both Garber and Blank said that Atlanta likely wouldn’t have received a new franchise without a stadium that can accommodate soccer. The new stadium will be constructed to accommodate the sport. The upper deck can be closed off with curtains and the lower seats and be brought closer to the field to provide a more intimate feel for the smaller crowds that most MLS teams average. The team will play on artificial turf, but Blank said grass will be brought on for international games and, he hopes, eventually a World Cup. Garber said the Georgia Dome wasn’t considered ideal to host a franchise.

Something to keep an eye on. Possibly a flagstore, like the ones that we see in NYC or London.

A New Apple Store Is Coming To Atlanta

Quote:
An observant tipster sent in a recent Craigslist job ad that contained the vague and intriguing sentence: "We will be opening a new Apple Store in Atlanta, Georgia." Immediately, exciting images spring to mind ... A glimmering structure with glass stairways on the Midtown Mile! A bustling Beltline-connected flagship store at Ponce City Market! Or, um, a retail shop in Cumberland Mall? So which one is it?

The architectural marvel of a store that Atlanta dreams about — the kind Apple opened in London, Sydney or New York — is known as a flagship store, and they're rarer than a Honda Civic in Buckhead. Because flagships tend to be custom built to fit in with their surroundings, their locations usually leak sooner than the locations of regular retail shops, which are not announced until seven to 10 days before their grand openings. So though it's painful to acknowledge, the odds that Atlanta is getting one on the Midtown Mile or in PCM this year are next to zero, particularly because Apple is wrapped up in building one in San Francisco right now.

It's not a flagship store. It will be in the Cumberland Mall.

The sole source for this information is a craigslist ad. So you are asking us to keep an eye on something that requires 1) believing Apple uses craigslist to hire employees, and 2) jumping to the conclusion that "new store" is a flagship? We might as well keep an eye out on this flagship store being a super tall skyscraper that apple will use to relocate its headquarters to Atlanta.

99% certainty this is real. It's not just a Craigslist ad. Cumberland Mall isn't confirming it publicly but they've added it to their lease plan. It will be near the main atrium on the lower level. However, being in the middle of a mall, it will not be a flagship store.
