Dallas is definitely getting the hype as HQ3(?). It's just that one tweet that includes Austin. But the source for that tweet seems legit.

I think it is Crystal City and Austin as well. There is already a connection with Austin.

If there is indeed a split, it's unlikely to be between two cities in the east. It probably makes most sense to split between central and eastern locations. It just makes it easier to recruit talent from different regions of the country. Having a Texas city would jive with that. I really don't see them picking Dallas over Austin though.

I heard the news on CNBC, and I thought they said one HQ2 city would focus on Tech much more than the other. But I can't find that in print, but that would bode well for Austin if true.

I think this whole ordeal is funny because not only did Amazon pitch city against city in the beauty contest of the century, stringing along the anticipation for months, now suddenly this 2nd HQ will be split so now it's 3 all together. Next thing we'll hear is they will split it into a dozen mini HQ lol.

Regardless what happens, Amazon will continue to expand their workforce in Austin for obvious reasons. Tech will be a big factor along with Whole Foods.

It's hard to tell how much they could actually go with that strategy. NoVa already holds what may be the largest of their AWS data centers. (Potentially adding a central AWS data center in Texas would seem to make a lot of sense though.)

The more and more this gets talked about, the more and more it makes sense that it could be an Austin-NoVa split. There are strong ties and reasons to choose both. Whatever happens, the announcement will be very interesting.

That's because most articles are sourcing the the WSJ report that Dallas and NYC were still being considered. It was A CNBC source that suggested a split between CC and Austin.

CNBC's article says Dallas too:

These sources told CNBC that a final decision is "close" and may come down to Northern Virginia or Austin, Texas — or perhaps a split between both cities.

"I don't think anybody really knows," Mayor Adler told KVUE on Monday. "What I do know is that we have huge traffic issues and affordability issues in our city. We can't do anything to exacerbate those challenges. So if anybody moves to Austin, any big company moves to Austin, those would be the conversations we would have."

Until the decision is made, no one truly knows what is going to happen, including Mayor Adler.

"How could [a company move to Austin] and at the same time help us with those challenges and not exacerbate them," he asked.
As much as I like Adler, that's a weirdly tone deaf response. Or maybe the thought process behind it is structured strangely. I don't know. It's weird.

Well, if Austin doesn't get it, there's a support group thread someone started on the forum in case anyone needs to talk.

Well, the mayor seems to have poured cold water on the story just as he did in the beginning with that letter to Amazon. My money is on Dallas.

Want to see a complete meltdown of apocalyptic proportions? Watch the Atlanta board completely melt down once HQ2 announces for somewhere else other than the ATL.
