I just love this building!.... On par with the trump tower, just has lower quality materials as expected for a suburban development. Does anyone know why that red building to the north is still standing? What are the plans for it? It does not fit in with 3 civic plaza or the new city hall.

Does anyone remember the splashy murals used for marketing on the hoarding around Trump Tower. It was sexy and cool, and style wise, very untypical for Vancouver. Cue the murals used around 3 Civic, very suburban as Urbanmetro touched on above, hopelessly suburban actually. Surrey is an edge city trying to emulate successful international edge cities, like Brooklyn (NY) and Hackney (London), places of international prominence, known for their creativity and lifestyle. It helps a great deal that these cities can syphon off creative energy from New York and London respectively and have done so brilliantly. And herein lies the problem, Vancouver has the creative energy of a wet paper bag, a city with lovely views but nothing much going on in the head. What exactly is there for Surrey to try to steal from Vancouver? Ironically, the few things that give Vancouver its urbane cache are usually the exact things that most Vancouverites hate, ie. wealthy Asians and the high end designer stores and lifestyle they've brought with them, and as mentioned above the iconic Trump Tower, the name and symbolism of which many in the city dispise. All to say that whichever direction Surrey takes in its development, it really will have to find its own direction and take inspiration from somewhere other than its more famous sister city.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon. I have to day that it does look much better in real life than in photos and it is going to be a massive tower once completed.

the low rise brick building? That's the Rec. centre and i think there are plans for a new one.

I think he's referring to the optomestrist's building and to my understanding, there's no immediate plans for it's redevelopment.

Surrey actually owns that lot and the building, and are just leasing it out. Ultimately likely demolished and a new tower built there, that would potentially connect right to City Hall.

If you look at the east side of the current City Hall, there are some "greyed out" areas of the wall which the walkways would connect to.

Nice viewpoint. Interesting perspective though on how wide Central City tower is given at that view it hides effectively 5 x 36-41 storey towers in Park Place, Infinity, and Park Avenue.

Even with the new 3 civic tower coming up and going to stand nice and tall the width of central will still keep it popping out for years to come also add its colour to help stand out as well. Wish 3 civic would have had some colour kinda tired of the gray everything

Like this building.
but just beside the skytrain rail is a big pain.
although builder will try best to avoid noise effect, but it is still a pain for investors.

As a non-investor I love the look of tall buildings right beside skytrain stations. I took the train by it yesterday and it looks great so far

I saw this building again today. Wow is it going to be a monster in the area. With about 20 floors to go, it is already close to the tallest in Surrey. Does anyone know when the hotel is set to open? If it's priced right, this hotel will always be at capacity. Within 35 minutes you can be at stadium skytrain station. Not many metro Vancouver hotels with exception to the Holiday Inn in Burnaby will be able to boast this kind of location and proximity to DT. I was sceptical at first, however, Surrey really is making the move from suburban to urban. I think it will take 10 to 15 years to catch up the metrotown as the second major town centre in metro Vancouver. Kudos to city planners for this project.

I believe the hotel opens in Fall 2017. Condo's likely to open later (early 2018)?

Update from today (Jul 20). It's risen 4 floors since my photo on June 20, so pacing good now.

I think my view of Surrey will make it possible to say when it is the tallest. This one is already weeks old.
