it would be a cool thing to if they did get the cruise ships coming in to new west too so they see the giant wheel coming there

I really hope new west takes this water front area they get and make it great with celebration i know for one i'd go there for canada day fireworks over cloverdale hell i hope new west making there side nice will make surrey step to it and make are side nice as well
it would almost make that waterfront walk way along the fraser surrey wants to make seem worth well lol

I Took these pics in New West earlier today.

Construction of the Interuban on Columbia st coming along nicely.

The Argyle on Mcbride which is part of Victoria Hill.

Also part of the massive Victoria Hill development was this really cool half demolished building. I'm guessing it was one of the old Woodlands buildings that recently caught fire.

Me and a few buddies couldnt help ourselves and took a look inside.

And some pics of the surrounding area.

ah the insane place

I bet the developers are kinda glad it burnt down - i wouldn't want to buy a condo in a former insane asylum

For people that were resident there back when it was a mental health facility, those buildings have a lot of very very bad memories. I'm sure they were very happy those buildings went up in flames.

So I guess that means the Larco development on the New West waterfront is officially dead after being approved nearly 20 years ago. Its too bad because now New Westminster will be stuck with a decrepit old dock and a waterfront cut off from the rest of the city. I guess we can all hope that once the north fraser perimeter road is complete that the city will partner with a developer to try and develop the waterfront again.

For those that dont know the Larco development was going to be originally 1000 units in 5 towers between the Casino and 6th street with a new promenade and a park at the base of 6th street. Several years ago they increased the planed width of the promenade and reduced the unit count to 911 units, this again got approved but nothing ever came of it.

edit: Now that I think about it the city owns the parkade which its not sure what to do with as its getting pretty old. With this purchase their in a better position than Larco to redevelop the waterfront because they own the parkade which can be tied in to any development...

^If you look back in this thread a few pages It's already been announced that the city of NW wants to develop that site as an extension of the waterfront. I'm kind of happy that those Larco towers fell through they looked pretty generic anyways and now there's hope of a more commercialized waterfront.

It looks like in Maple Ridge they are doing some decent sized work on 224th (the old main street in the original area of Maple Ridge). So i snapped a few pictures.

VIA Architecture appears to have updated its website
(note that the SkyTrain Station wouldn't be as close to the WCE as this LRT Station, unless Lincoln Station is built to access Coquitlam Centre).

That is exactly what they need to do in surrey. The city needs to quit pandering and integrate that damn surrey central into its central city 2 concept. I wouldnt doubt if that bus loop was the source of 75% of the crime around that area. It gives people a place to loiter, and that is not good.

That project just south of Lansdowne called Prado looks topped out for all 3 buildings - haven't been down that way in a long time.
