Thanks for the updates. Nice to see so many UBC projects coming along.

This is way more white spandrel than I'd expect to see anywhere in the West Side... it looks so cheap for UBC. Why can't they spend money on proper cladding and windows rather than gimmicky glulam pavilions at the base...

Because they do not spent 10 years on rezoning or planning process. Some projects are approved in 6 month or so, that's why things being done so fast and no delays and no NIMBYs involved too. Color of spandrel is a personal preference. I'd prefer to have it white instead of black. Does not get heated as much in summer...

False dichotomy... plenty of decent looking buildings get developed without an arduous process, and plenty of ugly ones languish in approvals purgatory before still coming out ugly.

Everything on SSP is a personal opinion, but it's not just the colour (even though IMO any colour - even brown - would have more life than white), and rather how it's used so prominently and wrapping around corners as a primary cladding. Note how the spandrel in the tower next door in the 2nd pic appears quite secondary as a material, even though the glazing ratio isn't much higher.

brown? that's some horrible taste in architecture... white is a lot better, especially since it is at least a functional colour.

I like the brown cladding (on the left side of the building above) better than the white cladding.

I didn't get a picture but this looked exponentially better in the direct sunlight today than in that picture. The blue painted balconies bring a lot of color to that side, especially when one is looking towards the top of the tower. The crane is down now.

Does anyone know if any of the new projects coming online have commercial? Last time I was there I noticed a lot of the stores in Wesbrook were quite busy, so it may be good to have additional options in the area.

None of what has recently being build has commercial. The only undeveloped mixed use site is the parking lot in front of the community centre.

Does anyone know how construction is looking for the Carey Center expansion? Bf and I are staying there at the beginning of August, and wonder if it will be a nuisance. It's that, vs an airbnb at Oakridge for cheapest decent accommodations during Pride lol

Is it listed under Projects and Consultations? I couldn’t find it.

Seems like they submitted an updated development application last month so it's still in pre-construction?

Don't you know that West Point Gary and Karen NIMBYs are the most ardent shoppers around here? Build it and they will all flock in.
