This American had Regina on his bucket list for 30 years. He finally made the trip

A '90s tourism video sparked Peter Starkel's long-held desire to visit YQR

Despite finding it a struggle to connect with tourism advice, Starkel said strangers filled the gap and helped him have a memorable experience. He came away thinking Regina was the friendliest city he'd ever visited over his many years of travels.

Regina Rams upset Saskatchewan Huskies to win 87th Hardy Cup
SportsCage staff
While it was the second meeting between the two teams in the Hardy Cup, it was also the sixth postseason meeting between the Rams and Saskatchewan. Regina now has a 4-2 edge in the playoffs over the Huskies with Canada West semi-final wins over Saskatchewan in 2001 -- 58-31 in Regina, 2007 19-13 in Regina and 31-9 in Regina in 2012. The Huskies' two wins came in the 2002 Hardy Cup and in the 2009 Canada West semi-final 53-23 in Saskatoon.

It's the second Canada West title for the Rams and first since 2000. Regina hosts the Laval Rouge et Or on Saturday, November 16 in the Mitchell Bowl. The winner advances to the Vanier Cup in Kingston, ON on Saturday, November 23.

A bunch of new faces. That's great, IMO.

Sure wish Winnipeg would follow suit. Everyone wants change, but keeps electing the same people.

My only wish was that we have more councilors focused on civic priorities such as infrastructure, police and fire, taxes, zoning, park and rec, etc. and much less on social issues that are the responsibility of other levels of government or worse, on international issues.

I think this is an improvement, but we will see.

Regina welcomes Laval, Laurier visits Bishop's in U Sports football semifinals
They've got nothing to lose but we can't be worried about that," Constantin said. "We need to worry about our standard and playing our (style of) football."

Regina will host the game at Mosaic Stadium, home of the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders.

"You just have to get into the playoffs and get hot at the right time," McConkey said. "Fortunately for us, this has been our year and everything has aligned perfectly for us.

"We're running with it."
This could be interesting then again maybe not

Conexus, Synergy, Cornerstone exploring merger
Three credit unions looking to merge, but only in the exploration phase at the moment.

As for what the new Credit Union will require in terms of staffing, Philpot said it is "still very early days as to what that new entity is going to need as far as specialization. So we do recognize a larger credit union enables that specialization, so we're committed to supporting our employees to have opportunities with reskilling and retooling if that's what's necessary."

Letters: Regina airport land development plan should be grounded
The proposed planning framework obliterates thousands of acres of prospective residential development land and results in a massive hole in the heart of the city as it grows to the west and to the north of Harbour Landing.

Such dramatic concepts should not be considered on the basis of a single consultant’s report that had a predetermined outcome.

Does anybody know anything about this first I’ve heard of it

Salthaven West Wildlife Rehabilitation plans new clinic, seeks community support
An anonymous donor has pledged to match contributions up to $10,000 between Nov. 26 and Dec. 3, doubling the impact of every dollar
After years of searching, the organization has secured land in the RM of Sherwood, five minutes north of Regina. The location allows Salthaven West to remain close to the community it has served for a decade. The non-profit is now working to raise $440,000 to complete the clinic, which is essential to its continued operation.
This is such an amazing news, helping out these beautiful animals and birds

But 2024 has seen Saskatoon’s 14th homicide while Regina has only five, a discrepancy Saskatoon Police Chief Cam McBride says they weren’t expecting.
Hopefully things will get better

Momentous day’ as new SaskPower plant opens near Moose Jaw
After nearly four years of construction, SaskPower officially opened its 370-megawatt Great Plains Power Station (GPPS), with the new plant expected to power nearly 370,000 additional homes in the province.
Before the ceremony began, SaskPower confirmed to the Express that the power plant is the main anchor tenant in the agri-food industrial park. When asked about that, Murdock said he foresaw future activity happening in that area based on ongoing conversations with developers.
Great news from Moosejaw

REGINA — The latest numbers from Statistics Canada are showing continued growth for Saskatchewan’s building permits, which had a 13.8 per cent increase for year-over-year growth for October 2024 compared to October 2023.

According to a release from the province, in October 2024, building permits in Saskatchewan totalled $239 million (seasonally adjusted). In Regina, the value increased by 54.7 per cent year-over-year.

The increase was largely driven by an uptick in residential building permits, which were up 53.1 per cent during this same period.

https://open.regina.ca/dataset/build...b-c388de3af389

2020 - $285,579,347.00
2021 - $330,328,453.13
2022 - $374,871,196.75
2023 - $483,066,998.46
