Panera bread it’s about time!!!! hopefully getting one in the West End of the city as well!!!!

I also remember hearing something about IHOP. Anyone know what’s going on with IHOP?
And I also heard that they’re bringing Olive Garden back to Ontario!! up to 30 of them in the next 10 years!!!!

I think a good spot for an IHOP is in that hotel on Wellington on the west side just south of Southdale. Holiday Inn still? The restaurant space in that hotel never seems to be very successful, not sure what's in there now. That's the type of spot I'm used to going to an IHOP at, either in a hotel, or along a hotel strip.

And in that new phase, they have an interesting mix of automotive. I had to look up that Clean Freak by Circle K and that's one of those higher end car washes. Their website shows they are a relatively small chain in the southern US with no Canadian locations yet.

Credit where it's due, Westdell does do a good job on its plazas. Now if they would ever build any of the residentials they have proposed over the last number of years.

Finally Panera Bread, and yes, we need one in the South or Southwest part of the city.

I once went into an iHop in Niagara Falls (Ontario). Shocked that they couldn't even have real maple syrup. In a pancake house. In Canada, fer fuxsakes.

Aren’t they splitting up that building at the corner of Fanshawe and highbury into a McDonald’s and something else? I’m curious what else will go in. My guess is another restaurant. I saw yesterday they had the long boom in use. Maybe for the drive thru. Couldn’t see.

It looks like they have the gas and hvac installed.

A lot of the other buildings in the lot are still getting their exteriors finished.

The pedi nails place has an opening soon sign in the window.

You're correct that the corner building itself will have two units when all is done, however, they did not build the McDonalds portion yet... so the building that you see up right now is just the south half.... it's strange that they didn't build the McDonalds from the start. The only possible reason I can think of is that maybe McDonalds has their own contractor.

I also wonder what will go in the other unit... it's the only vacant spot on the site-plan for phase 1.

Only went to IHOP once. There was a piece of glass in one of the pancakes I ate. I didn't cut my mouth but imagine if I swallowed. I could have sued for a lot of $ lol

Never going back. I've heard of Panera bread but never been. Similar to Starbucks right?

Sawdust cakes with "pancake" (not maple) syrup, with pale, gristly bacon and sausages. All for an inflated price in a depressing environment. Of course, instead of "pancake" syrup, you could always opt for that whitish bird guano topping that some like.

I don't get why people hop for iHop. International house of putrid.

Wow. That makes sense. I kept thinking it was going to be a small mcds if they split the building. Kinda disappointing as I was looking forward to the mcds opening soon

I would not say similar to Starbucks. I can't think of anything it is similar to in London. Although they have coffee, they are not really a cafe. They make fresh baked goods and have decent somewhat healthy lunches. Nice place to hang out for sure.

They have now poured the foundation footings and walls for the McDonalds section of the corner building. Up next the below slab utilities followed by the structural steel install.

How long would you estimate it’ll take before it’s done? 6 months ?

I'm curious if this one or the new Ingersoll one will be done first, they are both around similar stages.

I just had a look at the thread for the Sunningdale/Richmond commercial development, and that McDonalds was at the foundation pouring stage in early September 2024, and the restaurant was open by December 13th, so hopefully we’ll see it open in about 3 to 4 months

Bar burrito and halibut house now have a sign and banner up. Looks like the interiors are being worked on. Unclear which business will be the next to open.
