The panels in this photo make it look like they are using nearly the exact same ones as the Westin across the street. Makes this photo a bit trippy.

Funny to see the photos of this one topped out... It's amazing to me just how short 13 stories is in a CBD context...whereas it would be massively tall in Georgetown where I live.

I agree about it feeling short, but I think you could say it's because of the proportions and design just as much as it's because of the actual height. With the building taking up about 1/4 of the block, and the pretty straight up-and-down design, it's a bit like a 1:1:1 cube and ends up looking pretty squatty as a result.

Though I'd also imagine it feels the "squattiest" when you look from the angle Gillynova took the photo at, since its about the same height as the Courtyard Marriott on the same block and there's not other much vertical contrast to draw your eye.

As an aside, it is a bit surprising that they didn't build taller. I can't recall what sort of height/density restrictions the property has, but it seems like it could have actually been less expensive to cut the footprint in half (1/8 block) and double the height (26 floors), given how expensive the land cost would be here.

Isn't there some stupid park-related density limit near those blocks? I remember that from Towers i think

Yes, the height was maxed out under the park overlay zoning for the site.

I hope they redo the entire sidewalk of the entire block all the way down to Eddie V's.

It looks like the Marriott is doing the Great Streets treatment around their property. I don't think the City has any plans to upgrade the sidewalks on the rest of the block.

Would've been perfect if they opened for SXSW but I guess ACL/F1 month in October would be fitting as well
