This city needs much more of the kind of product they've been creating.

I can't help wondering what they'd do with a larger project. I imagine they'd give us something of a modern-day sister to the Pigott Building if they took on a structure of that size.

I love the concepts of these mid-rises, and have no doubt they'll be very nice. Core Urban's website has better renders (sorry about the size; I don't know how to shrink them down a bit)

Omg yes the master arches at the top - thank you builders for continuing to build beautiful things <3 - they did a beautiful job of tying the arches on the bottom of the building to the left with the rectangular windows of the building on the right in this building

And as beautiful as it is I am still unsure of the wisdom of a white building so close to the main road.. I fear the bottom will just become stained over time..

and yeah I'd have to agree with david on the other one, stalinist shic.. mind you if the mullions were stamped this could add a very nice patterned metal vibe to it - I hope they are. Also this one really depends on what brick they use - the brick pattern in the render is nice but will it be brick like that or more ellen faircloud-esque brick?

But overall this will be a beautiful corner with some consistent architecture and I am very happy about that

just goes to show that you can have beauty while still building modern structurally

Maybe they're predicting a comet will be heading this way, or be close enough and bright enough to throw shade of its own.

I can see the worry about the off-white, but if done well this could be a really nice building.

We do have way less particulate pollution downtown now -- diesel buses were probably the worst culprit for that in the last few decades, fewer trains go down the CP corridor, cars are far and away much cleaner than they were up until the 1980s, and while the explained-as-accidental steel "burps" still happen they tend to be confined to the north end. How often does this beauty need a wash?

to be fair, that cornice jutout on that beauty 3/4 up is in desperate need of a wash, ant the ground floor isn't white like the rest of it lol.. I'm more worried about winter road splashes, mud, sand etc..

Fair enough. A diligent building owner/operator is important then.

Is that cornice on Sun Life the same material as the stone blocks? Parts of the complex do need some love, mainly the additions from the mid-1990s condo conversion... the concrete over the parking entrance needs fixing, and the rest of the newer backside isn't aging well. The parts they renovated or spruced up on the original building are still looking pretty good though.

It's just 7 storeys, and surrounded on two side by taller buildings so it will be a mobile crane.

Augusta Street has long been a destination for those looking for a cool beverage on a charming patio. Located in the Corktown neighbourhood, just steps from Downtown Hamilton, Augusta Street is home to some of the most popular restaurants and pubs in the city. Not only does this street offer patrons and incredible vibe (and some of the city’s best live music) it’s location couldn’t be more ideal. A few blocks north, is the epicentre of Downtown Hamilton and a few blocks south, is St. Joseph’s Hospital and convenient access to Hamilton Mountain (Mohawk College & Hamilton Health Sciences’ West 5th Campus).

Currently under development, this project will be purpose built, with immense respect for the current landscape of the neigbourhood. These are probably 2 year construction projects at best so that's not happening. Hopefully they're moving forward aggressively with a winter/spring groundbreaking for an early 2024 occupancy.

If they were condos I would say for sure it would be private amenity space. But given that these will be leased residential and commercial, and that they are on Augusta, i'm really hoping for rooftop bar/restaurants. We know the ground floor will be restaurants, that was confirmed, so maybe those restaurants will have an upstairs outdoor patio since street side space is limited?

A crew was doing some sort of work under the sidewalk in front of 165 James earlier. Looked like some sort of electrical junction below the sidewalk. Likely preparing to remove the billboard there.

According to Steve's Instagram this will be started in the spring. Core Urban doesn't mess around, so I suspect this will be the actual beginning. Glad to see Phase 1 nearly complete too, or at least the exterior.
