Interesting, I guess they are using the lot across the street where the other hotel proposal is as a staging area for this one?

Old Shopify building is being gutted and refurbished as they start this 2nd hotel. So the building will be part of the high rise complex.

I didn't think the Shopify redevelopment was approved yet, so I am surprised if they are already gutting the old building. If it's approved we should change the thread title from proposed to approved for 126 York St. & 151 George St.

They probably dont need approval for the whole project before they can start gutting the old building

It would cool if this one ends up with top floor restaurant a la Andaz, but 8 floors higher up. They could capitalize on the epic view of Parliament. I don't think it's in the plan though, and I don't think the one in MTL has a restaurant either.

This one is progressing nicely, will be nice to see it rise and fill another lot on Rideau. Looking at the 2, rather different renders that have been released so far, I do hope they are going with the more recent higher quality render which seem to show a more interesting podium/ground floor and much more windows and some interesting fins with lighting at the top? The modern glass tower will be a nice contrast to CP's and Claridge Royale.

*Side note, also nice to see the progress at Claridge Royale. This is easily becoming probably the highest residential area in Ottawa.

This area just needs one 34-40 story building to make an interesting skyline. The protected view plane height restriction ends at King Edward. I would love to see that old Day's Inn get redeveloped.

Next stop I'd love to see redevelopment of either the large Shared Services building behind East Market Condos on King Edward or the huge Econo Lodge lot farther down on Rideau (this one could be a nice distraction from "Story On Rideau"

If were gonna redevelop something, I think it should be the Courtyard by Marriott! Agreed, the Econo Lodge would be a good one as well, and as per Harley, build it taller than the Trinity monstrosity.

As for the Shared Service Building, would be awesome to keep it as the podium of a new tower. Integrate the Andrew Fleck Child Care Service Building as well (never seen it before, but looks great. Probably another contribution from W.E. Noffke).

1/4 of the way up! I hadn't walked around that area in a very very long time until this afternoon. It's wild down there now! It's like being on the set of The Walking Dead!

So far everything is matching up to the render perfectly. I'm really excited for the big glass curtain western facade of this one.

I have been very critical of this one throughout the thread, but I think I might be surprised. The project got so much better after every new render.

Could end up being the nicest tower in the Market/Lowetown (with he Charlotte beating it from Sandy Hill).

Agreed. It doesn't take much to make a project look halfway decent which is what makes half the builds in this city so infuriating at times.

As a side note it occurred to me that the white panels on the lower half will kind of mimic the Novotel hotel. I like the switch to inset windows a portion of the way up and then wrap the dark glass and fins with an inset above that.

It's wild how this one is turning out to best project on Rideau if it actually delivers based on the latest renders. Here's hoping - because something like this is much needed in the area.

Anything to take away from that awful monstrosity called "The Story of Trash"
