I suspect the lack of a stop at Heron Bridge is due to technical challenges. Currently the bus runs on the outside lane of the road, so the sidewalk is used as the bus stop. With BRT, the bus will be on the inside lane, so the stop platform will be in the middle of the road and there won't be room to add a platform on the bridge. As soon as you move the platform to the either side of the bridge, it would be very close to either the Prince of Wales Dr. stop or the Riverside stop. Also, given that there is no intersection there, they would need to build a pedestrian overpass to get the pedestrians to the side of the road.

An improved transfer at Confederation and a Rideau River pedestrian bridge would likely serve those students instead.

Interestingly, I was on an east-bound 118 bus just yesterday and at around 11:30, 15 people got off at the Heron Road Bridge stop to walk to Carleton U., while 10 got off at the Confederation Station to transfer to the Trillium Line.

Anecdotal, but I know a number of friends who would rather take the 118 from Kanata and walk (especially during nice weather) along Colonel By, then take the 92/96 to Bayview and use the otrain.

The walking option would still be available. Its just instead of walking to the Heron bridge, you would walk over the planned Rideau River pedestrian bridge and then through Vincent Massey Park to the Riverside Drive stop. It looks to average out to be about the same distance, but I haven't measured it. Obviously for those in the south-west end of campus it will be longer, but it will be shorter for those at the south-east end.

I imagine it would depend on where in Kanata. If you're along Hazeldean where the 118 runs, then that makes sense. Starting at Terry Fox, though... that would be a much slower choice than 92/96 to O-Train.

Yeah, they do tend to live near Hazeldean, I personally live closer to the highway so its much quicker to take the 92/96. Interestingly, I have a friend who lives near both the 118 and 96 but opts to take the 96 to Queensway and then a 95(?) to Algonquin. I have only taken the 118 a few times but it doesn't slow enough that I'd want to take another route and then transfer to get to school.

The distances do seem fairly comparable. I wonder though will the city try and save money by using the existing bus lanes from PoW until Heron? It could probably be done with bus signals but I imagine it would be quite confusing for everybody involved. Is there any real life example of bus lanes going from median to curbside, or vice versa?

Just put a traffic signal on the westbound lanes at the bridge to allow passengers to get to and from a BRT stop in the centre lanes. You would not need lights in the eastbound lanes since there is no demand to go that direction.

The initial study area only included the area from PoW west, the consultants came back pretty quickly talking about the difficulty transitioning from median to curbside and the study was amended to include the area east to Billings Bridge. The entire length will have median lanes.

Agreed. Algonquin Collage would have been better, but they would likely have had to pay rent. Are there any city owned public buildings along the route? At least it is just off of the "transitway."

Yup 101 Centrepointe AKA Ben Franklin Place, very close to the College and adjacent to Baseline station. Houses the Centrepointe branch of the library and the Centrepointe theatre as well as some city offices. There's a ~250 seat auditorium, ~1000 seat main performance hall, and a few smaller meeting rooms...

Dear Whoever At City Hall Monitors This Forum:

Why don't you publish the storyboards for consultations online WELL ahead of time?

Why the secrecy?
