They seem to be building it on a cash basis.

Thats an interesting thought as its not happening anymore down South.
Some American coworkers of mine that visit HD's in New England say the hombres have gone to ground since Jan 21.

A stop work order has been issued for this project. It comes from falling debris.

I was just reading about this... and saw also that while it's only been approved for nine storeys, it currently appears to be built to 11 (and there's an application in place to increase to 11).

Oh no! What will Moe do now?

But honestly, it will barely have an impact on the glacial timeline of this project. I did notice an interesting comment by Zane in ANS that the city guy didn't reply to his question about the building being 11 storeys now. I assume they did get all the permits for the extra 2 floors?

The crane was removed in the last few days.

I went past here yesterday. Regarding the previous comments about this being built on a cash basis, it seems that the long-delayed cladding, still not finished, is being supplied on an open-box basis by Happy Harry’s. Never have I seen such an odd mix of materials. Brown siding, gray siding, white siding, gray brick, stone or faux-stone, all adjacent. Just bizarre.

Agreed. I pass by frequently. For a relatively large project, it seems to be progressing like a suspiciously slow mom-and-pop operation.

Stuff like this continually baffles me. Is it really that expensive to build something with a coherent, attractive (gasp!) design?

Also, I wonder about the economics of having a building in the state of construction for much longer than the norm. To me it would seem that every extra month (or year?) of the building being a construction site is a loss in revenue, while the costs of keeping it insured must add up over the long run.

I say make the developer rent the top 2 floors at affordable rates for a looooooog time. It has to be something that would scare developers enough to ot to do it again

Yes. The developer shouldn't profit from disobeying the rules, but it's ridiculous to tear down nearly-complete housing if there's no specific reason why it's harmful.

Is it not harmful if developers do not follow development agreements?
