Thanks for the updates!
On the hot sunny days (next time we get them) you'll definitely notice the difference - there should be a lot less glare.

I am also very happy with the triple pane and looking forward to seeing the impact on street noise. As mentioned earlier, it has not been any issue earlier, but just curious to see how it might change.

You are also correct with your assessment on the reflections. The old windows had lots of indoor reflections, but the new ones reduce these as well. This results in a more "clean" view of the city.

They have indeed picked some speed today. All old glass is gone from our apartment now and hopefully soon they will start to install more new glass. The most time consuming thing seems to be cleaning the remains of the old windows before installing new ones. They are also very sensitive with any rain and only want to install new glass when it is not raining. This week has been challenging in that sense.

Today they also seem to have more guys onsite, so speed is picking up.

This morning our apartment looked like a traditional Japanese house with paper walls, however quite a progress was made today. They managed to install new glass on all but one window element in our apartment. The reason for one being left for tomorrow was that they noticed scratches on one of the new windows and could not use it.

Our Japanese kitchen this morning.

They use a crane with large suction cup to move around the 600 pound windows.

It takes around five minutes to install a new window. In photos the side windows already have the new glass.

I also had the chance to step outside on the platform and see in what kind of conditions they are working in. There's not too much space for their work out there.

I was very curious to see how see-through the new glass is from the outside. It really is like a mirror and one can barely see inside! The red ladders in the first photo are inside while everything else is being reflected from outside. Amazing.

More beautiful reflecting glass above. I really like its color.

Comparison between new glass and no glass at all.

Is every unit in the building chipping in for the cost of the window replacement or just the units at the top half that are having the glass replaced?

The bottom half with dark glass is the hotel portion.

Great update, you really notice a huge difference from both outside and in. With the mercury rising this upcoming week you will get to feel the temperature difference from before as well,

Unless others have requested, you may very well be the first One Wall owner to have a balcony and be on it albeit for a short period of time.

Thanks again for the indepth updates Klaus.

I am not an owner in this building (just renting), so I don't know exactly what the details are, but I am assuming that every residential unit (all 74 of them) is chipping in. Also the owner of the building, Peter Wall, will have his share of the costs, but the hotel downstairs shouldn't acquire any costs from this project.

No problem with the updates. I have an unique position to be posting these, so I keep them coming as long as there is something interesting going on.

I am really looking forward to seeing what the difference in sunshine temperatures will be. Perhaps already this weekend will tell us something about it. Also looking forward to seeing how the noise level will be once everything is sealed again.

The one thing this building is missing is indeed the balconies. Would be nice to have one, but there aren't. You are right about the platform being our "balcony" although there is no business to be out there unless you are one of the workmen. They were kind enough to let me have a peek yesterday, though.

Thank you. It is indeed heck of a view.

I have some nice photos in stock and will take more once the window project moves to the next floor and the weather shapes up. Stay tuned.

In the second pic you can see how tight the panels fit together as Klazu was mentioning. It matches the hotel glazing.

During overcast conditions, the newly-replaced windows still look noticeably lighter to me than the hotel windows on the lower half. In fact, the old and new windows on the upper half looked almost the same to me when looking at the tower yesterday evening.

It depends a lot on the lighting.

I agree that the new glass often looks a lot like a reflective version of the old clear glass - but from the nort (TD Tower) this morning when it was overcast, it was the first time I've seen it that the new glass matched the lower half of the tower. Usually it doesn't.

That said, it still looks 100% better than the clear glass!

It has been a busy week for me, so here is the update from this week. On Tuesday window replacement work was completed on our floor and they lowered the stage down to the floor below. Here is a video illustrating the speed of the stage moving.

Video Link

What remains to be visible of the stage are its upper parts. When they next week move further to the 42th floor, our view should become unobstructed again.

Crane they use for lifting the 600 pound window elements.

Achoring still in place on Monday.

On Thursday another crew came to repair the holes in the wall. They did a good job.

So the project is now 100% complete for our floor. Overall it wasn't as disturbing as I was afraid it might be and there was approximately two weeks of disturbance for us. The workmen did a great job preparing everything on the floor for the work, protecting all the apartment and hallway surfaces, respecting our privacy to the extent it was possible and cleaning up after each day and once complete. All in all my takeaway is that the project has been very well planned and managed.

I'll take some new exterior shots once the weather shapes up a bit.

Definitely looks better. You can barely see the blinds behind the glass.

Here are those promised comparison photos. Unfortunately the direction of the Sun was not optimal for some of these photos.

I just love the top of the Law Courts. It's a hidden gem.

To me the two glazings seem 100% matching. The small difference is only due to different lighting and it will look coherent once we see the whole project completed.

Close-up of old windows. Most of the windows have their roller blinds down, but with out that you can easily see inside.

Close-up of new glass windows. Almost all roller blinds are up, yet you cannot really see inside.
