Lets hope those grey squares don't represent stucco panels *fingers crossed* Think of how sexy this building would be with concrete as the grey some sort of stone as the black, perhaps a granite, then all the glass and cedar *drule* now there is a way to welcome someone home!

Can someone who has permissions go to the old thread and make one last post there, explaining that this is the new thread, with a linky here? Because I didn't know what was going on.

So long as the Meewasin Valley Authority has a say in what's going to be built in close proximity of the riverbank, you're unlikely to see a 20 storey tower nestled very close to the top of the riverbank. I'm sure the MVA is much more comfortable with a 3-1/2 storey building in this location.

As with most of their work, I think Kindrachuk has done a pretty nice job on this building. They are really becoming the dominant architect in that area, as Health Sciences E-Wing and J.B. Black Estates are also Kindrachuk designs.
The grey will likely be stucco, as cost will probably kill off any idea of having composite metal panels for those elements, but one can always hope. The third floor units that have the lofts are going to be pretty juicy spaces and will likely go for some major dollars. Can't really tell if the roof area over the loftless 3rd floor units on the north side will be a common deck area or just a roof. It would make a great party area if it was a common deck, though.

I think this may have been posted on this site before at some point in time(?), but I came across this proposed development by Ehrenburg Homes for Sask Cres right across from Rotary Park. This development would have wonderful river views and also looks across to River Landing. Unfortunately, when I contacted the real estate agent responsible, the response was this is on hold until other Ehrenburg developments are completed. I think they are missing out on an opportunity to capitalize on one of the very few 'river front' pieces of land to be developed.

Check out the http://circledrive.ca/ webcam. Right now they are starting to install the large steel girders.

South Bridge

If you haven't checked the bridge cam today, the first of the steel beams are being lifted in place this morning.

Wow, what a righteous old warehouse. Reminds me so much of the old Buy Rite Furniture buildings that used to sit where we have gravel surface parking opposite the Idylwyld fire hall. I used to work at Buy Rite as a teenager and spent time wandering around in spaces that look _just_ like what you posted. What a shame they're gone...

Indeed, currently located at basically the center of the city, how are they going to get it out? Won't they have to go under a bridge somewhere along the way?

(quite a run of posts from me - you can tell I just found the new thread and I'm catching up on a delightful 5 PAGES of backlog)

I was thinking the same thing. Will they have to take the traffic lights down all the way down College? How's it going to get past the bridges? Crazy stuff.

House

They will probably move down College Drive, then it will depend on where they go. If they have to cut trees to get it on the road that is a huge cost. Street lights and traffic lights they can sometime wiggle around but if they have to be moved, big coin. Add to that permits and city crews, Sask power and you have to wonder.
As a matter of interest, houses that come from J & H or Warman Homes in the north that are going to somewhere east of the city are required to go down Highway 7 to Delisle then south to Outlook across the bridge then east to where ever. I feel sorry if anyone lives close to where this one may end up if it's going sit for awhile. Seen that before and awhile can be a long time.

I really think it would be a waste of a view if a 20 storey building was built along the river. Lower structures with progressively higher ones behind are ideal, this way views are also created that are more downtown as well.

Paris of the Prairies

This is a really fun link, all the city needs is a stellar radio tower and some increased density that showcases impeccable architecture and voila! PARIS II!!!

The official Saskatoon blog has an article and pictures of the steel girders being installed at the south bridge site.

The Tonko project at the corner of 2nd Avenue & 19th Street is going to be built by Stuart Olson Dominion Construction. Work on site (or at least mobilization to site) is scheduled to begin on May1st. And yes, there will be a tower crane.
