Agreed, at that height it blends well with the surrounding streetwall yet it adds some really good density.

It's a nice looking project. The upper levels, though, look like stucco or pre-fab panelling or something. I know it's too early to judge but those floors have a distinctly Hamilton feel to them.

I was talking to architect John Mokrycke the other day and I asked him when? He said he hopes the shovel will go into the ground in September. Remember he is only the architect and is not the owner/builder of the building. They have made a lot of changes and there was an OMB objection from the Vasco Da Gama club next door that has held it up. The hole in the ground there now is for repairs to the foundations that need to be done first.

Lots of nice images of potential buildings from the north end to the Connelly project, but only one complex is swinging hammers, at 150 Main. Love to be proven wrong and see 7 or 8 cranes in the downtown starting in early 2015.

Toronto's boom took a while to start up didn't it? Acquiring funds and permission and fine tuning designs takes a while.

Yes it did take time, but Toronto's problem right now? A lack of available cranes and construction workers! Not kidding. Toronto's chief planner mentioned this recently, when talking about all the new projects that have been approved.

I'm surprised at the slow pace of "swinging hammers" here.

Just call me Impatient! And kudos that have made the investments in bricks and mortar including Witton (awesome), and Stinson School (I know it's Harry). Oh and the Hamilton Grand! Now that would be a building fest if all of those joined the bricks and mortar party.

True you can still get houses in the 200s in central Hamilton, but they will need tens of thousands in upgrades and renos for middle class tastes. That's a lot of money and headaches for most people. However, I certainly hope there are people out there willing to give those old homes the TLC they deserve.
