^ So, I guess the region's transit card wouldn't use that name.

Um...what!?!? Have you ever been to Shanghai? Please don't tell me you're basing your opinion on ONE photo thread.

Check out these photo threads I've done.

Sorry about that off-topic nature of this post, but I mean, really. Shanghai a dump? Ha.

Back on topic. I think we should call the card the Jellyfish, Jelly for short.

Oh, and vansky, there are plenty of starfish in the waters around Vancouver

Taser Care.

Every time it gets read by the turnstile, it gives off a *BZZZZZTT* sound.

shanghai scores really high comparing to vancouver in terms of infrastructure, mostly because of expressways and skyscrapers. Even if vancouver completes its gateway, adding a few 200s in surrey, and transform itself to the year 2020 with 400+ condos added, it will still not come close. i'm sorry about the future, but i am positive that it will lose its livability by then as well...hahaha

forgive my comments.

Too bad we are not using turnstiles....fare gates that opens automatically are way better

I'm sure there are nice areas - you show it in a nice light. But obviously there are significant horrible areas too.

More a response to vansky's horrible posting than anything though. Let's get back on topic.

Thought I would dig up some old suggestions that I remembered from the Fare Gates Thread that were made last summer regarding a name for our Smart Card. In addition to OTTER, I also suggested BELUGA (Buses, ELevated, UnderGround Access).

OfficeDweller mentioned "Sasquatch" and "Ogopogo". Both names are uniquely BC, though Kelowna may complain at the Ogopogo reference.

Off topic, I know, but the joke about the gates making a "BZZZZZTT" sound every time you go through reminded me of an image from using the automated gates in DC.

Anyone see the movie "Gattaca" with Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawk? My friends and I made fun of the "Valid" response they would hear each time they entered the space agency doors and get the little DNA check on the turnstile.

I've always just thought it would be a funny real-life idea to have some little device confirming your "validity" each day. So that's my vote for the gate response when using the OTTER card : "VALID"
