Are you kidding ("No one's heard of it")? I actually remember taking the ferry to Kent Island before they built it. After they built it, I drove across it frequently and trolled for "rockfish" (better known to most as Striped Bass) under it and around its piers in the 1960s. I do think they kind of ruined it by making the new span not a twin of the old, original span though.
nope not joking. Ive talked to people before and they so 'oh the one in Virginia?' (talking bout the Ches. bay bridge tunnel) and i say 'no the ches. bay bridge near annapolis' and they so 'no never heard of it'. I mean people in the region know of it but it feels like no one else does. i have this book on bridges with this bridge on the cover and the author lables it as the ches. bay bridge/Tunnel in VA. i disagree that they ruined it though, it looks much better now IMHO
That bridge is apparently open for the public to climb! Although, it is not the longest arch anymore - overtaken by the Chaotianmen Bridge in Chong Qing.

Dubai has one in the works that will have an even longer span than the Chaotianmen though (although the bridge will not be nearly as long as the Lupu in Shanghai).
After viewing all of the various bridges presented thus far, I have to say that The Great Belt and the Millau Viaduct are far and away my two favorites.
I've always like this one too but I thought it was blown up in the Balkan wars. Has it been restored so beautifully?
Yes, it has been rebuilt using newly cutted stones from the cave of the original one (built in 1556/1557) and the same construction techniques, and opened in june 2004.

Those bridges in San Antonio are indeed very nice, as is the riverwalk. I must visit this one day. From what I have seen in photos it is a benchmark redevelopment of how to improve a small urban river.

Actually the urban segment of the San Antonio River, "Riverwalk" is being devloped and will be 12 miles long. Incorporating musuems, cultural attractions, neighborhoods, etc.

Millau Viaduct gets my vote with the Navarro street bridge in my hometown getting second (see above), but here are my other faves (since they haven't been getting due props!):

Not the most conventionally beautiful, but one of Michigan's more interesting bridges, the Portage Lake Lift Bridge. It connects the Keweenaw Peninsula mainland of the Upper Peninsula to Copper Island between Houghton and Hancock, MI. The bridge is the world's heaviest and widest double-decked vertical lift bridge, and has a maximum clearance of 100 feet when the road deck is lifted.
