This is silly. Initial plans for rail have already been cut significantly and TXDOT should be footing the bill.

If anything, TXDOT should be covering rail lines as it encompasses ‘transportation’ IMO.

I don't know. You haven't lived until you've had a picnic in an alley on a beautiful sunny day in Austin, Texas.

It doesn't matter. One cannot reallocate voter approved funds to a completely different project.

Same goes for any grants received or bonds issued for a particular project.

So this tiny lot "infill" project would have become Austin's tallest tower if not for 6xGuad, Waterline, and The Republic... awesome!

If I'm not mistaken, it will also make Austin home to the three tallest all residential buildings west of the Mississippi River.

...And The Independent. There is still no confirmation that the 694' is the correct height. At 684', this will be 1' taller than The Austonian and 6' shorter than The Independent.

If you refer to TX Dot meeting, I was there. didn't hear any opposition. What I heard was people are tired of TX Dot not doing something about traffic getting in/out of Rainey. The are closing down streets, creating one-ways, not fixing pot holes, sidewalks seem to be missing, I-35 about to start construction, some lanes could be made into 2 lanes to improve traffic flow, some stupid Austin code preventing hotels from having a place for guest to be dropped off so the uber blocks traffic flow. That sort of junk. If traffic was flowing, no one would probably even notice anything was being built. when you leave your condo to go somewhere, the minute you exit the gate, often times you are treated with a traffic jam, and you havent even made it to I-35 yet!

Elevations showing the height increase to 684' and 57 floors were added to the site plan:

Looks like they added some visual interest to the top of the south facade (that will peek over Riverview). This was my main critique last time, that the south side was so much blank concrete.

This is probably my favorite proposal in the city right now. The height is impressive on its own, but for such a small lot directly on the I-35 frontage road, it's even more interesting. It's like a smaller, taller 44 East, which is already one of my favorites. The new visual details on the formerly blank southern face will help.

This is also my current favorite since the Ritz & Conrad are most likely dead and the Wilson was cut in half but possibly dead too.

Is that going to be a 425 foot tall windowless wall? Egads, Batman.

You get those all over established high-rise cities like New York where there are tall buildings next to each other all over the place. The real issue is if the architect of the building next door didn't plan ahead and do the same thing. If not, think of all those apartments looking at the blank wall of another building.

It looks like s/he didn't plan for it. That's inexcusable.

If you look at the West and North elevations you will notice that the 100' mark is slightly above grade at a door. This tower is actually a few feet taller (maybe 686'-688' tall).
