hmmm... I'll think about it cuz I have to delete hundreds of windows, get new textures, edit/photoshop textures, resize textures, and on top of that I have to get the textures. I would take pictures of them but it would take a while. Sounds like a lot of work. I would render my city or photoshop it though. Plus the city would be WAYYYY more realistic. I don't know what to do.

If I do switch to textures it's gonna be a while until I update the city.

Oh, I would also have to wait until my camera gets back from getting fixed which will be between 3-4 weeks!!!

So I thought about it, and yes I will start using textures in my buildings. It's gonna be a while cause I have to get my camera back.

Just some info on the conversion:

1. I will take my own pictures which means ALL my textures WILL be original and if one looks like somebody else's it's not my fault, don't ask me where I got it, and don't ask me to take it off(sorry about making it seem so harsh).

2. This will DRAMATICALLY reduce the number of faces and lines in my city since I don't have to add windows. This will make my city move faster moving, more updates, less hassles.

3. The city will look WAY more realistic.

4. I MIGHT mix the hand-drawn facades, floor-to-floor models, and textured buildings in my city depending on the architectural style.

Hope to update again soon and remember it will be a WHILE for the textured results. I'll post some pictures of buildings I didn't get to show without textures until I get my camera back. Then after that, you will have to go back to see these next few pictures.

hmmm.....

It's been quiet lately so I'm gonna try to end this quietness with an update.

The West Point W Hotel & Residences

The W Hotel was built in 1999 and at a height of 792 feet it was the tallest Hotel/Residential building in West Point. The building is right in the center of the city which makes it one of the top 5 most expensive hotels and condo's in the city. The crown features a 50 foot wide, 30 feet tall W which is classifieds as the biggest on the Western Hemisphere.

The crown:

The blue building next to the W Hotel is the Orion Industries building. The tower is 629 feet tall and is right across "Hells Block."

Met Bank
Met Bank owns most of the blue and white building with the blue dome. The dome contains mechanical stuff, and it's a "green" building making it the first building in the entire island to be a truly energy efficient building at the time of it's completion in 2001.

The twin towers next to Met Bank were completed 4 months after the Met Bank Building and just like Met, these towers are also energy efficient towers.

Yay for Green Buildings

All looks well. I like the W Hotel. Very creative having the W in the crown. The building kind of reminds me of a tower you'd see in the Marina District of Dubai (well the ones u/c).

Crap. I got my camera back on Friday but I'm an Emo loner so I hadn't taken pictures until today. AND THE FLASH WORKS! I took 421 pictures today and tomorrow I'll probably fill my memory card at school. But umm...I'll take a break from thiz city. I'm not gonna stop working on it but I have 2 Sketchup Projects which I wanna work on for the moment.

They will probably take a while since they both are very detailed and I'll have to start 2 new threads for them.

OMFG! I'm back!

Well I'm back. I just got a brand spankin new computer with 500 Gigabytes of Hard Drive, 3 Gigs of memory, NDIVIA GForce 8400 Graphics card, and and Intel Quad CPU 6600 processor. With a 24 inch LCD Screen. It passed over 10,000 pictures from my iPod to my computer in about 5 minutes!!!!

Which means I have a bad-ass computer for a dumb 15 yer old and I can make hella nice large cities. And with my 10.2 megapixel Nikon D40X I'll see if I can make some realistic lookin buildings!! With bad-ass renders too! And moe detailed models!!!!

I'm so happy I can get into SPP without having to use my phone's incrapnet.

And unfortunately my old computer had all my info and it's getting fixed but I don't wanna wait and I'll have to remake almost eveything so La Corte is done for. But not because I gave up on it, but because I don't have the models any more.

So, nice to see you all and I can't wait to meet the new people joining us!!!

Thumbs up

Good to have you back Alek, it's been a while! Congrads on your new computer (sounds great), and hopefully you can get a new city going.

While you've been gone:
-A bunch of newcomers have surfaced bringing some new life to the sketch-up forum
-I made a new Chamberlin, and plan to continue it in April (check it out )
-Patrick has done tons of work to Staunton
-Mo has a new city

Pretty much it.

ummm... I'm starting a new "city" but idk if I should post the city when it's already developed or post the grid and do buildings as time goes on...

What's better?

hey aleks,

in my opinion, the best way is to post the city's progress as you develope it. these make for the best threads because we have to anticipate the next update.

Did you lose this city when your old computer broke? I love the designs in here. The station is awesome.
