Tis a shame that not a single one of these towers are supertalls, but they more then make up for it in the design of the towers. And I really fail to see how the development of these towers would destroy a heritage landmark, since Princess of Wales Theatre is not even thirty years old

I don't think this image, expanding on Gehry's vision of a "cloud podium" have yet been posted:

From: Urban Toronto
http://urbantoronto.ca/news/2013/02/...ishgehry-plans

They're on record as saying they want to build this cloud podium design, but aren't sure how to do it yet from a construction standpoint.

I think they should worry about finding some financing before contemplating some wacky engineering issues...

Conceptual drawings/models are part of the architectural process. Why do you assume they haven't approached financiers? Engineers were likely involved a while ago.

To me this is a ten year build out, so engineering issues, and financing issues are all in fact conceptual at this point.

Let them do as they please...

If they do tackle the cloud podium, I'd suggest they use white wire, like the head statue in front of The Bow in Calgary.

Saw this coming. "From the city’s point of view, however, the only issues are heritage and height. Planners want each tower chopped by at least 30 storeys and the warehouses kept in one form or another."

From the Toronto Star

That's just planning. City Council will determine these buildings fate. And as such this won't be coming up for review for at least half a generation, so we have nothing to worry about.

New rendering:
The tower on the right looks ridiculous. He might as well just build a huge sign that says "wow, I'm such a daring artist!". The other two look great, though.

Is it any less ridiculous than 8 Spruce Street in your very own city?

New rendering:
The tower in the center appears to have been designed using toilet paper.

I get the feeling from your previous postings on this board that you might just be into boxes, like really, really into boxes. Nothing wrong with that of course, but Toronto has far, far, too many boxy buildings, I mean we have a lot of boxy buildings in Toronto. It's time we change it up, and if that offends your sensibilities... well then so be it.

For me the big thing about this proposal was the height (no pun intended). So I am deeply disappointed to read there might be a significant reduction in height. Hopefully that won't be enforced, and Toronto will get 3 masterful towers all around 85-95(ish) floors in height.
