That's absolutely incredible.

I am getting pumped for Elks/Riders. Pulled my jersey and fan gear out today

Excellent news. It bothered me to no end that CTV bulked up on the NFL, but consigned the CFL to the sports specialty channels. This was particularly insulting during the playoffs and the Grey Cup.

This news is long overdue.

Only one caveat that brings out the conspiracy theorist in me. Ottawa are in four of the games (the most by far of any team) and Ottawa has historically (for no reason I can come up with) been the worst TV rated team in the league by far.

I know Ottawa was not a metered rating city for a long time but I'm pretty sure they have been the last few years. Even during the Redblacks' glory years when they were a very entertaining team (Burris/Ellington/Sinopoli) they rated low. Why I don't know.

It would never surprise me for Bell (or Rogers) to try and kill something, even its own. Conspiracy theory over.

Edit: I just noticed Ottawa is playing three weeks in a row then there will be EDM/CGY and then Ottawa playing again. This can't be good for viewership unless the Redblacks would be leading the league.

Some of the CFL haters have been spreading the ol' misinformation about the Lions increased average attendance being solely due to the opening day concerts.

Here is evidence to the contrary:

"The Lions were well on their way to cracking 30,000 for their home opener in two weeks’ time before announcing 50 Cent as their pre-game concert. There have been more than 50,000 sales now, and it’s a good bet they will beat the 2011 record of 50,213."

Now I want to see if they get after TSN to bump up the production values, on field graphics, extra cams etc.

I watched a pre season game from Edmonton and they were using a drone(s). that might have been the in house production, I saw a full inhouse production from Hamilton a few years ago and it rivaled TSN. TSN, pick up your game.

And I'm already 0-1. Haha. I was thinking that Montreal was better, but Winnipeg at home has been a given for so long.

I liked the Elks new duds - except for the unreadable numbers & names - just make them yellow.
They showed some promise on the field too before handing it over to the Riders. Looks like a strong receiving corps and I’ve always felt Brown is a good (underrated) RB. I’d like to see what this group could do with Tre Ford under center.

And yes - great news about CTV - and loooong over due.

And just like that I'm 1-3. Oof.

WPG @ OTT: WPG.
MTL @EDM: MTL. Edmonton should have won last week. Hold onto the ball in that ten minute stretch of the game and they were better than the Riders for most of the game.
CGY @ BC: BC.
SSK @ HAM: Oof. The Riders were pretty dull for three and a bit quarters and were down 21-8. Hamilton moved the ball a lot and didn't score much. Go with the home team HAM.

The MTL game was a tough loss. Our receivers seemed to have butter fingers and were overthinking things.

I get the weather warnings, but another exceptionally tiny crowd.

Why are you surprised? We haven't won for years. Losing doesn't bring the fans out.

Private ownership is long overdue for this franchise.

2-2 this week to go to 3-5.

I should probably wait until injuries are reported. I did think about changing my Winnipeg pick after I heard the second injury, but, there ya go.

Roughriders, lucky again. Still giving up too many sacks and not actually pressuring much and penalties. 2-0 is a very flattering record.

OTT @ MTL: MTL.
BC @ WPG: BC, although injury status might change that for me.
EDM @ TOR: TOR.
HAM @ SSK: the rematch. Definitely a losable game for SSK especially for how bad the defense looked for much of the game. Bad coverage, lack of pressure, but I'll take SSK at home.

Edmonton and Oilers look to score big investment on par with Calgary's arena deal

Multiple sources have confirmed to Postmedia that the Oilers Entertainment Group has been working with city officials and the UCP government on a plan to have the province make a major sports and cultural investment in Edmonton — including, potentially, upgrades Commonwealth Stadium

...

As for the other parts of the potential deal, there are reportedly still some things to work out, including what to do with Commonwealth Stadium.

The city has previously asked the province for $180 million to modernize Commonwealth — a now 46-year-old facility that did not show well when Edmonton tried to land hosting duties for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, there is a debate about whether the city is actually best served in the long run by sinking money into Commonwealth, or if it might be better to build a new, smaller stadium that is more soccer and/or concert friendly. That’s undoubtedly the more expensive option, and it’s unclear what the province might be willing to contribute and whether OEG would be involved.
