Even though I expect most Kelownians probably think this one is pretty great i'm not sure if this is a "great" Canadian bridge but I certainly think it's noteworthy since it just opened a few months ago; Kelowna's $179 million Bill Bennett Bridge:
I believe this bridge is the only record holder in Canada, thus possibly the greatest bridge in Canada. The Hartland Bridge in Hartland, New Brunswick is the world's longest covered bridge at 1282 feet (391m) long:

Unlikely that it's a great Canadian bridge, but I've always thought it was quite a picturesque bridge. A partial view of the Inverlea, or Parkhill Road, bridge in Peterborough, Ontario, as seen from Water Street:
A little background of this bridge is worth passing on ... the Arlington Street Bridge was originally constructed by the Clevand Bridge Co to cross the Nile River. When delivery was cancelled it was purchased by the city of Winnipeg and assembled over one of the largest rail yards in the nation.
With a 14-lane cross section (6 collector lanes, 8 express lanes), it is by far the busiest multi-span bridge in North America, surpassing the Brooklyn Bridge.
The inner under deck truss bridges were constructed in 1929, as Avenue Road/Yonge Boulevard extension to Yonge Street, and incorporated into the Highway 401 routing in the 1950s. It underwent a major rehabilitation in the early 1980s. Though the inner bridges are right next to each other, appearing as a single structure, there are two separate road decks.
The collector (outermost) spans are girder bridges were built in the late 1960s during the widening of Highway 401 to a collector-express system. And quite possibly the worlds busiest bridge with appox. 125 million vehicle crossings per year.
In comparison the George Washington Bridge in NYC which is often regarded(erroneously so) as the busiest bridge in the world only carried 107,912,000 vehicles in 2007.

Was this actually confirmed? I loved Guy Maddin's My Winnipeg, but this was one of the statements I couldn't figure out if it was true or not. Google gave me mixed results.
Nice pics. Here is one of mine i took today of the Golden Ears bridge. If anyone is in van this June on the 14th it is opening to the public for a walk across and civic party event.
No pictures from me today, just some rambling. Bottom line is, if you love bridges then Vancouver is the place in Canada to be over the next 5 years. I was driving yesterday from Poco to Maple Ridge (two communities in the metro area, about a 15 to 20 minute drive) and in doing so i drove through the Coast Meridian Bridge project, the Pitt River bridge Project and the Golden Ears Bridge/connector project and i realized, how often in the country do you drive through 3 major cable stayed bridge construction projects in 15/20 minutes?
Essentially this is the list of Vancouver's new Bridges, all of them Cable stayed.
Skytrain Canada Line bridge over Fraser River - Complete and open this summer.
Coast Meridian 4 lane Overpass (this overpass is 600m long so it is not a small project) over large train yard - Opens 2010
Golden Ears 6 lane bridge over the Fraser River - Opens in June
Pitt River 7 (expandable to 8) lane bridge over the Pitt River - Opens November
New 10 lane Port Mann Bridge over Fraser Rive - U/C opens 2013
New Patullo Bridge over Fraser River (6 to 8 lanes) - Proposed, currently in sight of being fast tracked, construction could begin in less than 5 years.
So thats a possible six new major cable stayed bridges opening in Van in a 10 year span, awesome!
