Keep up the great work!

Welcome, James! (Both to the board and to Boise).

I really started the thread for my own sanity. There were a lot of projects being proposed in a short amount of time. Boisedev has a nice map that shows the proposals throughout the valley, as well. And I also appreciate Sawtooth sharing his construction update photos.

Hope you enjoy the BSU game... looks like they have another good team this year.

Thanks!

I've been following Boisedev and their great ProjectTracker for a while now. It was cool to see the early start with Don mentioning his newsletter on this board. I just discovered the Development thread Part II and am already 62 pages in. I'm enjoying reading the progress as it happened. I only wish all the pictures, like from Architecture Buff, were still available. Maybe one day I'll tackle to 500 page Part 1 thread!

Our first trip was July 4th weekend, 2017 when we stayed at The Grove. The next 2 times we stayed at The Inn at 500 and will stay there again in November. We really like it there.

We plan on taking a look at The Afton on our visit. I wish The Caddis or Trappers Island were already in construction because we would wait them out but as it is there are limited condo options and we might have to buy earlier than planned. The Metropolitan (has that started yet?) is a little north of what we want.

Quick funny story...the first time we visited, we went from the airport right to The Grove. Looked out our window facing east, overlooking the Basque Block, not much of a skyline, and I said "what are we doing here?" By time we left, we were convinced that this was a place we could live. After our second trip, we were convinced that Boise was where we wanted to live. We've traveled a lot in 25+ years together and have been to most of the cities in the US and no other one has grabbed us as much. Now we're obsessed with it and would move there today. We even watch KIVI local news each night on our firestick...lol.

Sorry for the hijack! Thanks again for the great work on the board to all!

I wish the Steelheads were in town when we are because we'd check them out too!

Yeah, there wouldn't be much of a skyline looking east toward the Basque block. Unless you think the St Luke's complex is impressive.

Looking east from the connector is better:

Great shot!

Going through the Development thread, I've really enjoyed the discussion on Parcel B as it happened and fully agree that it was a missed opportunity. Something tall and unique, to stretch the skyline westward would have been great for that spot. It's a shame that's what ended up there.

yet another downtown residential proposal has been announced--a 7-story building on the east side (near another proposed apartment complex) that would provide affordable housing. plenty of approvals and red tape before this gets the green light, though:

story on Boisedev

edit: Boisedev just posted an update with rendering.

the design is nothing special, but it does add density and much-needed housing to the east side. looks like the tan proposal next to it also got a slight update.

there have been a lot of proposals, but not much dirt moving. I've read that high construction costs are keeping some projects from breaking ground, but hopefully we'll see at least a couple more get underway soon.

here's a new 125-unit apartment proposal for the east end (story and image from Boisedev.com):

^^ Were all of those photos taken very recently? The third photo has a lot of Fall colors in the tress and leaves. I didn't think Fall colors showed up that much until at least early October in Boise.

i'm guessing the top two were taken in the last year. the last one was definitely from earlier this summer... you can see the new hotel construction on the right side, which as of today is only up to the second floor.

the leaves here are just starting to turn, but you're right that the first photo is likely from last fall.

new hotel/residential proposal for Garden City (a suburb of Boise that's basically surrounded by the city... this proposal would be about a mile from downtown Boise). called the Boardwalk, the hotel is proposed to be 8 floors, which would be the tallest structure in Garden City, and would be situated along the Boise river.

looks like the old tank farm south of downtown may be revamped into a dense, mixed-use neighborhood called Curtis Junction. the tanks would likely be relocated to a new facility nearer the airport.

glad you were able to get some pics. the crane base has been in for a couple of weeks now, so hopefully we'll see the crane rise soon.

in the meantime, the Cartee looks like it's ready to break ground, according to the Idaho Statesman. Image from Holst:

a small project, but a nicely designed 3-story building downtown that will replace an old drive-through bank. this will house a new bar and restaurant.
