Arc 21

This devlopment has no official name that I can find so I will initially use the developers name. This project is a six-story, 163 units rental apartment building at 340 Campbell St, Nanaimo and has started construction

Located at the corner of Campbell and Wallace Streets and adjacent to downtown Nanaimo and one block north of Telus Living.

Ocean View

Construction has started on Ocean View Senior Living, a 145-unit seniors’ housing project. It was originally intended to build a 175 unit multi-family development but the city wouldn't approve the zoning change.

Located at 388 Machleary St. home of the former Malaspina Gardens

Sandstone

Quote:
The approximately 294-hectare community, called Sandstone, is set to provide up to 2,200 new residential units. Seacliff is also “contemplating” over 3 million feet of potential industrial space to go along with it, said Desjardins.

The project is currently in the rezoning process with city council voting in favour of a zoning bylaw to permit residential, industrial and mixed-use development in four areas in November.

“We think the property is particularly well located being at the junction of the Trans-Canada Highway and the Duke Point Highway. It has extremely convenient access via both land and sea, and it'll further grow and support the city's aspirations as a key transportation and distribution hub for Vancouver Island,” she said, adding that there is also proximity to the port.

Corsan added that this will offer an opportunity for Nanaimo to become a warehouse and logistics hub for the area, in addition to offering a strategic advantage as the city grows.

Port Nanaimo Expansion

This is a big step up for Port Nanaimo. Almost doubling current capacity.

Quote:
Duke Point Expansion

The proposed expansion of Duke Point Terminal will provide exporters and importers with direct access from Nanaimo to global markets. The project has received financial support from the Government of Canada through Transport Canada’s National Trade Corridors Funding (NTCF) as well as support from the Government of British Columbia’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure through the Stronger BC: BC’s Economic Recovery Plan under the Regional Port Enhancement Program. In collaboration with the Nanaimo Port Authority, DP World is committed to expanding economic capacity by enabling the efficient flow of trade both to and from Vancouver Island.

Key project components of the proposed expansion include:

Extension of the existing berth from 182 to 325 metres to allow international vessels

Replacement of the existing diesel quay crane with 2 fully electric quay cranes

Expansion of the container storage area including the introduction of refrigerated containers

Addition of covered storage capacity to accommodate a wider range of products
Construction of additional facilities including a new operations building and truck gate

Expedited construction due to new housing legislation

Quote:
A rezoning application was approved during the Monday, July 8 council meeting proposed conceptual plan for a pair of five-storey residential buildings with 168 units.

The City’s director of planning and development Jeremy Holm said this development off the southern end of Metral Dr. falls under new provincial rules designed to speed up housing projects.
