A quick search of the AZ Bar website using on "Maricopa County Attorney" as the employer results in 267 attorneys. Combine that with support staff and they're going to need a huge office.

Also, the article appears to suggest that this building will also be used for other county departments.

yeah I would imagine they will consolidate offices instead of leasing multiple spaces around the county. Plus support staff, clients, defense attorneys etc. Plus I don't see why the county couldn't save a few floors and make some rent money off of it. Why wouldn't a defense attorney want some office space in the same building as the county prosecutors

Agreed. I hope this includes the staff that's currently occupying the Security Building. That needs to be open to the public, such an awesome building!

In fact, that is a rendering of the redesign of the building with light towers on the corners and the glass lobby to bring more light in at the entrance. Also there will be a green space patio above the lobby, too.

I know you meant Eastlake and rumors is an understatement, Lafferty has his signs up at about 4-5 different sites this time around. The last time he did this none of them materialized and eventually after a couple years of the signs being vandalized they just went away - interesting note: the sites were all different places than they are now.

Feel like this is post-worthy due to how hopeful everyone seemed to be for a "City Target" Downtown. I guess "City Fry's" will have to do for now.

Target coming to Phoenix Camelback Corridor

Arizona's first "flexible-format" Target will move into midtown Phoenix's Camelback Corridor next year, the company announced Wednesday.

The retail giant will take over the former Sports Authority building at 16th Street and Camelback Road. Target projects the store will open in July 2017, according to a press release.

The company's flexible-format stores are smaller than a standard Target and "are tailored to meet the needs of local guests," the release states. Target locates them in densely-populated neighborhoods, urban areas and on college campuses.

The Phoenix store will be 50,000 square feet and will include clothing, beauty items and cosmetics, fresh groceries, baby products, home goods, tech products and Target Mobile and order pickup services. The average Target store is about 140,000 square feet, spokeswoman Kristy Welker said in an email.

A Camelback Corridor Target would be the closest location to a growing number of downtown and midtown Phoenix residential projects. Target stores are already at 19th and Montebello avenues and at 44th Street and Thomas Road.

The new location lets the company "serve more guests who may have to travel outside of their neighborhood to shop at Target," Welker said.

Target has 30 flexible-format stores in operation with dozens more announced for the next few years.

With the hundreds and hundreds of apartments being built within walking distance both S. of Camelback and North, and the existing communities, it's a no brainer. Considering I live 2 miles from there, I will be a frequent customer.

A potential sale of Chase Field to a private group is dead.

Stadium Real Estate Partners II notified Maricopa County Monday afternoon that it was terminating its letter of intent to buy the ballpark for $60 million.

The group had wanted to buy the ballpark.

The Maricopa County Stadium District owns the downtown Phoenix ballpark, which is the home field for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The D-backs still have an option to buy Chase Field from the county. The ballpark was built in 1998.

I was in downtown Phoenix for the first time in 3 years yesterday, felt it necessary to take some photos for the whole as I really appreciate photo updates. I still think the downtown core is downright crummy, compared to (insert city name here) with a denser stock of buildings. I lament our losses and spite the replacements.


Progress on the Cornish Pantry. I do love the exposed brick and wish Subway would follow suit or someone would paint a mural on that corner. The clinic on the corner of Central and Adams is gone. Door was open, could see the beginnings of Dunken Donuts inside.




The Renaissance updates, can't wait to see the finished product. Talked to DTP Ambassadors who said an urban saloon (not salon, THANK GOD) as well as Starbucks have been confirmed.


Next walked over to Van Buren and 4th Ave, looks like progress is being made on downtown's newest concert venue to rival the Marquee.


Scene caught my eye as I was walking Monroe, the layered buildings. Thought it was cool.


On to Roosevelt Row. I'm still under the impression the THINK! home was burned down intentionally. Dirt where the Think! house used to be, 3 homes fenced up, all businesses in the Flowers building, sans Flowers, are closed up.


Most change I saw downtown was here. 3rd and Roosevelt, for obvious reasons. Looks like the corner building is as high as it can go. The space where Dressing Room was in the MonOrchird building has tons of construction equipment inside. Maybe we'll see the fruition of the rooftop bar?


Metrowest performing at a glacial rate. Don't see many photos of this building, but here's Roosevelt and 1st Ave.


The best designed building downtown so far. Its impression on the landscape can be seen almost everywhere downtown.

There's not much difference unless the design is considered. The jail brings visitors and foot traffic whereas the employees now will likely never be seen outside.

The thought of converting that jail into a new use and for consolidating county buildings was great. The entire campus is horrific. But, the reuse of this building should have come with plans for building new space on its edges, demolition of some structures closer to 1st Ave, creating a park environment, and adding mixed use features to the site especially on Washington and Jackson.

Leaving S Jackson with a wall of imposing county buildings is a huge waste.

Anyway - there were meetings this week for 1st St/Portland condos and the 5th St/Portland redevelopment.

Some more renderings of the Blocks on Roosevelt project. I personally like the project as it's addressing what Roosevelt Row has needed for a long time. Less parking, more shop space, adds some density to 5th. Don't like the homes on 5th with dirt yards either, looks lazy/trashy.

Looks like even activating the alley way...unless I'm wrong.

As the old Holiday Inn near Sixth and Fillmore streets prepares to close, a new Holiday Inn Express near the State Capitol at Tenth Avenue and Van Buren Street is now one step closer to receiving rezoning approval.

this is great, that suburban style hotel is occupying a whole city block in a great sport prime for development.
