They're currently seeking financing on that project, while the rest of their projects (save Houston) already have some equity or debt on the table. The size is 352 units according to their website (2 above what is mentioned by the city).
http://hanoverco.com/capital-markets/hanover-south-lamar?val=equity

Here's the City of Austin's Zoning Change .pdf:

http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/edims/document.cfm?id=161669

I'm not sure that their lack of funding after a few months on the drawing board shows a lack of interest by investors (which would be odd given the heat in the Austin rental market) or a lack of push by the company itself. Perhaps the increased competition for new projects that comes with that heat has basically put this one on the chopping block as the weakest project out there? Any of those possibilities would be bad for the project.

Another project U/C at the UT campus. Also they erected a tower crane at the Dell children hospital site expansion.

There is quite a lot of development going on around Bluebonnet and South Lamar as well. If you are going south on Lamar and turn left onto Bluebonnet you can see several residential projects that are under construction. Also I have noticed they are clearing out the northeast side of that intersection. The houses on the site look like they will be moved by whoever buys them. So I am thinking there is a project that is planned for that site but I am not sure I have seen any details.

Financing is now in place for a new eight-story, 137-room Hampton Inn & Suites at 1701 Lavaca St. near the University of Texas campus and the Capitol.
Construction should start soon with a projected opening in September 2012, according to an announcement from Houston-based hotel manager Vista Host Inc. Financial details weren't released.

I wonder how close it will be to "Shoal Creek Walk". I would bet the silhouette will be similar to take advantage of the view corridor...... Will be interesting to see!!

So Im confused, are they building a 20 floor tower next to Shoal Creek Walk or will be be Shoal Creek Walk? Shoal Creek is supposed to be 28 floors not 20 floors. If it is Shoal Creek Walk, then that will suck that they scaled it down.

I am pretty sure Shoal Creek Walk was nixed. It's pretty frustrating when one reads about a cool project in the works, then it just dies off into oblivion. Damn fluff articles.

Okay so this is most likely a new proposal by the same company and with Whole Foods being the primary tenant. Well I hope they add some residential or something to add more floors to it, would like to see something closer to 30 floors....Well actually 40 floors or more but wishful thinking...

I personally don't understand why it would be cool to sleep in a dorm-like environment with a bunch of strangers. I guess it saves money.

There are often semi=private or private rooms in hostels as well that just share facilities. But the idea is, it is affordable. You can get a room in a hostel for 10-20 bucks a night. Good for students and the like.

The rendering looks ok, it reminds me of the old one from back in 2007.

Glad someone understands that concept. It's good to have options for those who don't have a big budget for lodging. It's not a "cool" factor thing. Duh
