That's better, although that's probably a little too high for the Gables tower. But it's alright.

Surely there are more proposals on the way. Goldenboot mentioned the Legacy and Fairfield projects which will be around 30 and 25 floors. And also the Hixon Properties/Ritz hotel at 3rd and Congress will likely be a good sized building being along Congress and just a block north of 200 Congress. That project will likely have some residential also, and of course retail. So it could be around 30 floors also.

As for the views from my neighborhood, I certainly don't have one from my house, although there is an apartment complex that has to have views from it's 2nd story window facing north. And a few houses in my neighborhood, a little further away towards William Cannon actually have a view of the skyline from their frontyard. Now that only includes Frost Bank Tower, One American Center and One Congress Plaza but that isn't bad. From another spot the view is narrow, since the street is lined with trees, but you can see everything over say 275/300 feet. But that's a slim window of view though so there's only like 3 buildings there. There's other views just outside of my neighborhood along William Cannon with even better views. Once all these towers are completed there may end up being 14 buildings visible at one view at the William Cannon bridge, and over 25 or so at the other view on a hill. So yeah, I don't have views from my house, I wish! The only view of downtown from my street is a very faint, seasonal view, (when the trees lose their leaves in winter), of the Frost Bank Tower's crown, and only at night. During the day if it's cloudy that building just about disappears on the horizon from all the views. I've come to use it as a measurement of visibility.

We ordered our digital camera lastnight, so in 3 to 5 days we'll have it. When the visibility is good I'll go out and get some skyline shots, albeit sooner than that though since I'm so excited about it. Straight line of sight distance, as the crow flies, the skyline is about 5 miles away. Driving adds 2 miles though.

On the topic of more proposals: Does anyone know if AMOA is any closer to a deal on their property just south of Republic SQ? I know they have been seaching for a partner to devolpe the land and include new space or the Art Meuseum. I have thought for a long time that was the best way for them to go......use the property to get someone else to build the space! Now that's Art! Any info out there?

There are a couple more "tall" proposals on the drawing board that I know of... One of which is a client of mine - thus, I cannot say what they're proposing. However, plans might be made to the public by the end of this year.

DON'T FORGET ABOUT PLANNING COMMISSION TOMMORROW! T. Stacy, Benchmark, Ardent and Constellation need our help in their zoning apporvals. Join me at the Council Chambers tomorrow for the 6 p.m. PC hearings.

How likely do you think it is that these proposals come to fruition?

Out of the 31 (current) Austin central core residential proposals of 5+ stories, I would be comfortable guessing that 15-20 will break ground in the next 2 years.

As for the T. Stacy, Benchmark (200 Congress), Ardent (Four Seasons) and Constellation (E. Riverside)... It would be a safe bet that 2 or 3 of these actually come to fruition in the next year or two. Which ones exactly, I’m not sure at the moment.

I am curious as well. I watched part of it on TV (geek that I am). I will say I was so glad the plans for 5th and Congress were shown. It looks GREAT! Beautiful clean modern design....while still being very distinctive. It would set a new standard for architecture in Austin.

Not as exciting as some of the other news we've been getting, but here are some scoreboard renders for DKR.

Mind you, the new screen is ALL video with nothing surrounding it. The ads will be displayed on the videoscreen as static ads with the ability to go fullscreen for replays.

Here is what that might look like.

Largest in the world, BTW.

For reference:

University of Texas* 134 x 55 7,370 sq ft
Miami Dolphins* 140 x 50 7,000 sq ft
Atlanta Braves* 79 x 71 5,609 sq ft
University of Arkansas 107 x 30 3,210 sq ft
Ohio State University 90 x 30 2,700 sq ft

This plus an additional 10K in seating is going to make DKR rocking over the next few years.

Just a heads-up...

Channel 6 will be replaying the Planning Commission meeting from last night, over the weekend. The scheduled time will be posted tomorrow or Friday on the Channel 6 website: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/channel6/

I have also asked city staff for a means of obtaining this rendering, if it is available for public release. Regardless, it should be out there in some form, shortly.,

Just to put a bit more perspective on it. When comparing to your Widescreen TV's in the store, this bad boy would be 1704". Makes my 44" screen that I thought was big seem tiny

That is great info Mopacs. Perhaps someone can find a way to capture the image if it is not "officially" rleased.

Mr. Stacey did the presentation himself. The prsentation showed the elevations, footprint.....some perspectives......and a few close-ups of the building. It was stressed that these were merely initial images.....but I thought it was a great start. I actually went on his web-site and dared to send a message encouraging the design to remain distinctive. Sorry to compare, but to me (just an opinion) they are far ahead of the 200 Congress project in terms of desgin. The 200 project seemed very confussed in its identity. I am hoping a dose of healthy desgin competition will get better building for all of us!!!!!!!
