That's why, to the consternation of others, it's called "The City"!

Those columns are huge, and will protrude nearly 4 ft off of the facade. That should also play off the light.

A few more grabs...

Trees on that terrace...

If this rises precisely as currently planned, it will be one of the most iconic towers in the world.

I'm interested in the east-west profile of this tower- these renders seem to suggest that at least the first setback will be skipped on the north side. I expect there'll be an overall northwards lean like One Vanderbilt to preserve some of Chrysler's viewing angles.

At one point, I thought that it was, just looking at some of the graphics. But the massing suggest not. Hard to tell from these angles though.

In the as of right massing, there is no setback on the north.

The way this building connects to GCT, adding almost a second terminal, and the way the ground level/ elevated walkway flows with GCT just make this tower such a no brainer, on top of it everything else up is just as fantastic.

Will the tower's plinth be connected (so you can walk) to the Grand Central raised plinth area (where Park Ave wraps around on the upper level)? I always thought it would be nice to make that into a raised park but I guess that would mess up traffic too much.

I agree, and it wouldn't mess up traffic. Whenever I've used it, it does not have a lot of traffic on it. Eventually, it will be a park.

Utterly spectacular development. That base is just incredible, and seeing the soaring majesty of this building, topped by that latticed crown..... glorious!

No plans to close it now, because it's an important artery. But they have introduced the public to that level, so years or decades from now, anything can happen. It is closed on Saturday mornings in August. I've ridden bikes around it a few times.

This gives you an idea of where the new plaza will take you...

This hearing is rambling on, but it was nice to hear from skyscraper Queen Judith Dupre. Otherwise, nothing really new. Lots of support, but also lots of NIMBYISM, some downright ridiculous.

Yup, they would be much more comfortable in the remaining 99% of land in this country that is devoid of skyscrapers, since they apparently hate them so much.

Most of the commissioners are giving good reviews. The only negative so far, if I can call it that, is one who wants them to take the design of the plazas to the "next level".

And as I type this, there's one who seems to want to evaluate the entire building, which isn't what they're there to do. He seems upset about it. Change that. He's nuts.

Finally, he shuts up, and we're back to making sense.

The LPC will give a favorable report.

10 to 0 on the 42nd Street passage.

8 to 2 on the harmonious relationship. One commissioner opposed because she wants to request that more height is added to the lobby so the terminal is even more visible. I'll allow it.
