I can not figure out why the retail component is being kept so secret. Other malls being redeveloped have updates (ie: Park Royal) however Brentwood there is nothing being said at all.

The mall is still losing more stores too. Not a good situation it seems.

Pacific Centre didn't announce the stores that would be under Nordstrom until last month.
It must be some sort of negotiating tactic with the prospective tenants.

The McArthur Glen Outlet Mall @ YVR STILL has not officially issued a tenant list either.

It could be a "first to market" tactic.
i.e. one of the criticisms of Target's Canadian entry was that it informed competitors a full couple of years in advance of its arrival -
plenty of time for the competitors to ramp up their renovations in order to compete.

Who knows really, with all the recent store closures (Target etc.) I bet there are major retail leading issues. That given, the mall right now caters to mainly seniors who buy nothing and families with young children. There isn't even a mens clothing store in the mall other than Sears.

I like to believe that when the new Solo Towers are complete and Brentwood construction is above grade and visible to the masses you will only see interest grow for retailers and the public in general. Lets face it this is a rebirth of the brentwood mall not a remodeling. they are trying to make is something new, not just a freshened up, but still old Brentwood Mall.

It's a complete rebirth of the entire town center, not just the mall. With everything going on the area will be a completely different place in 10 years when you look at the mall development, Solo District and everything else in the pipeline in the surrounding area.

I'd be surprised if they didn't change the name of the mall completely just to make it clear that this is brand new. Lynn Valley Centre is going to do this with their reno.

As long as it isn't something like "The Amazing Brentwood Town Centre".

I don't know how much they could change it. I mean, it's going to have Brentwood in the name. Whether they keep mall or chance it to centre or village or something else isn't really a big deal. People will keep calling it Brentwood Mall as long as it has Brentwood in the name.

I worked at the mall years back. Never seen such cheap people in my life!

They live in million dollar homes however don't spend a dime on anything.

Whats there to buy anyway? We will find out how cheap people in this area are when Whole Foods finally open. If that supermarket is dead empty, then you are dead on accurate.

Just because you own a million dollar home doesn't mean you have a lot of discretionary income to spend.

The retail mall could end up being a complete failure should there be no anchor stores. Another Walmart will just be a mess.

it could work if they brought in stores missing from vancouver but do have stores in the rest of canada - edmonton has a lot of stores we don't have

stores missing but are elsewhere in canada:
Muji
Uniqlo
Zara Home
MNG Mango
7 for all mankind
Massimo Dutti
H&M Home
White House/Black Market
Giant Tiger (lol)
Vero Moda (female brand of jack n jones)
COS (H&M sister brand store)
Desigual

Expanding into the USA and probably Canada
& Other Stories (H&M owned)
Forever Red - a sister store to Forever 21 - all items in store are under $15

I think second or third locations for stores already in vancouver that would be good, central location relatively, easy parking, fit well into the lifestyle mall they seem to be going for:
Pottery Barn
Williams-Sonoma
Loft
Anthropologie
Urban Outfitters

anyway it faces a lot of competition with metrotown being so close but i think having a whole foods in the hood is in its favour for attracting some good names, retailer wise

I agree but I doubt that will happen. I think it will be more like Dollar Stores etc.

Where did you see it? How many floors? Do you have the floorplans? Is it confirmed that there will be a community centre right below? I have heard that the second tower is nearly sold out now.

I just briefly scanned though it and can't remember any of the details now, but I'll check on all the specifics when I'm at work on Monday
