Great to see the development, but this will mean of course more traffic on Torbay Road. The city HAS to find a solution. Perhaps I'll pursue this in the traffic thread.

Torbay Road is a nightmare - specifically Southbound traffic between Hebron Way and the ORR. Costco is not the source of all the traffic and further development on Hebron Way( all for that) will just compound the problem. Didn't the city have public consultations about a year ago regarding this issue? Anyone have any idea where this sits with the traffic committee?

I believe the plan is to join Hebron Way with Major's Path. That would help somewhat.

I hope I'm wrong but I think that'll just jam up Major's Path - it's only 2 lanes - except at either end. I don't know what the plan entails, but I'm guessing the only way it'll work would be for traffic from Hebron Way to be right turn only onto Major's Path.

The progress is abysmal.
Blackmarsh underpass finished last year and still not open.
Old Pennywell also finished and nothing happening there either.

I had a look around today.
Nothing moving either side of Redmonds Road that I could see.
One pickup doing something just south of Kenmount/north of Pennywell.
Some heavy equipment just north of Topsail Road.

No equipment visible south of Pennywell.

Almost August!

Pathetic progress. I went back to look at the news release about the tender for this years work. The minister "hopes that portion of the highway will be open to traffic by the end of the season." LOL!
According to the Govt. Purchasing Agency site the tender was actually awarded on April 28, though it didn't make the news until May 9th. So it's been 3 months! since the tender was awarded & shag all done.
The Dept. of T&W tweeted a pic of some prep work for the Topsail Road overpass yesterday and some trenching for lighting (presumably) last week. I guess one can only hope that with all the delays when pavement is actually laid it will be a better quality job than the 1st section of the TGH which is now crumbling.

We'll never see an overpass this year and from the looks of it pavement was pretty "pie in the sky" too.

So is it just mostly paving and lighting work from the Kenmount Rd -> Topsail Road portion of TGH?

The Topsail Rd overpass was a separate tender from the larger paving/etc tender, about $6 M I believe.

I'm assuming that they won't do paving of the Kenmount Rd to Topsail Rd until they remove the two bypasses at Old Penneywell and Blackmarsh. They can probably do some of the on/off ramps north of Kenmount.

They've installed a pedestrian underpass of the off-ramp at Scotia Square, however it goes nowhere on either side of that, river on one side, main highway on the other. As it stands they can pave to Scotia Square with an off-ramp to Topsail Rd however without the underpass at Scotia Square you won't be able to go North from Topsail Rd onto the TGH.

I still think it will be wildly ambitious to see any pavement this year, there's just not enough effort being shown.

I also doubt there will be any paving done this season. The initial plan was to open phase two of the highway in its entirety at once (Kenmount to Topsail) and not in smaller sections, though that could change since the project is about 7 years behind schedule.

They've done more work the past week on the pad for the Topsail Rd overpass than the whole other parts of the TGH project this year.

The Feb '17 Gov't announcement said the 'big' tender this year would include the Topsail Square underpass. Seems someone thought that meant the one-lane concrete box pedestrian underpass at the Topsail Square off-ramp to Topsail because there's no indication of any work on the 'real' underpass.

I got a chuckle from the Topsail Rd overpass construction signs that say 'expect traffic delay till Summer 2018' - it's a 6 lane 38 metre overpass, probably the largest of any for this highway and it would be a miracle for it to be done in one year, given the pace of that roadwork so far. Low bid was $4.7 M from Trident but I haven't seen the tender award notice. Gov't is slow to update the tender website.

With minister Hawkins gone now, perhaps the new guy ( Crocker ) might shake up that department.

^ Those should be excellent improvements in a roundabout way, but considering how long it is taking to complete the TGH, how long do you think this will take?

I suspect by the time any of this is done my children will be entering Kindergarten.

I currently have no kids, nor plan on them in the near future.

Why would they still include a long slip lane from Allandale to PPP. That's dumb af and just inviting accidents. It totally defeats the purpose of the roundabout lolol

I don't think some of those roundabouts will ever get built, or at least within 20 years. Roundabout K and the Clinch Crescent Collector run through sensitive wetlands, marshes and the side of Mt Scio Hill, all within Pippy Park. Remember the uproar when the Outer Ring was proposed to run through Pippy Park and the delays due to studies, meetings, enviro impact etc.

Where's the money coming from?

It'll be interesting to see how drivers will react when all the lane markings fade away after a couple of months. You can't tell lanes in the winter on straight roads now.

Anyone have a detailed map of where the TGH is going to go ? All the ones I found online are too small to really see
