That actually didn't sink in until you just mentioned it right now. It's pretty amazing when you think about it. Of course it makes me greedy though. Makes me wonder, when will we see another?

I've been thinking a lot about the impact that this tower will have on LA. What particular aspect of this tower excites you most?

Effect on skyline? Observation tower? Density? Awesome hotel? Excitement in that intersection? The design of the tower?

For me, it'll be the view. The Standard, Bonaventure, Perch, Takami, and WP24 are great but it'll be nice to finally have a true supertall observation tower. Our city hasnt exactly needed one because of Griffith/Hollywood Sign/Runyon/Getty. Still though, it's an amenity we've been sorely lacking. SWFC, ESB, CN Tower, Sears, Space Needle, etc remain among my favorite experiences in the corresponding cities.

Good points.

If really put to mind, of course aspects of all of those things you mentioned are exciting. Skyline impact will be huge of course, and engaging that intersection at street level is also great.
But I would say probably the biggest for me is the fact that LA will have a TRUE landmark in a skyscraper.
As well known as US Bank is and easily recognizable, its mostly known as "that building in LA." No name recognition and no reason to notice it except as part of the usual skyline pics.
This tower will have a name, and its offerings...highest skydeck in the city (and the west), the highest rooftop pool in the nation, a dynamic top floor sky lobby, a spire and LED lit crown, tallest in the West.
It will Immediately turn into a hot spot. Can you imagine the films, TV shows, Commercials sure to be filmed on that sky deck and in that pool?
It will give LA a compound skyline...with two major peaks. And to boot, its designed WELL. Better than any of us imagined. Its the kind of building that tourists will go out of their way to see, thus filling DTLA with more people, thereby more business...etc etc.
Thats' what has me the most excited, and forgive my long winded answer,
So yeah...game changer is kind of an understatement.

Very true. This tower will sit at the cross roads of two of the most important thoroughfares in the region.
Knowing that you can simply follow Wilshire Blvd to its terminus and this glorious tower is waiting there. I can see the tourist maps and signs now, all pointing towards the brilliantly lit spire in the distance.
LA can finally add 'Wilshire Grand" to the list of places in LA to go. Just like people go to NY and they automatically say "Lets go to the top of the Empire State Building!"
Branding is huge when it comes to tourism, and simply having a consistent name and identity alone will set this tower apart.
If you cant tell I'm singularly most excited about this project, I'll say it...this is the one I want the most.

I'm celebrating my 32nd Bday at the BonaVenture this week, I plan on celebrating my 35th on the 72 floor of the Wilshire Grand Tower.

Wedbush is a good example pf post modern. Plus it's 21 stories. Doesn't look 21 stories due to it's windows.

I sincerely hope so. I've got nothing against the current skyline, but can you just imagine central L.A. with a similar spread and size to Chicago? It would be simply astounding.

I went swimming in one -- on the top of the Ritz Carlton hotel in Hong Kong. It was on the 118th floor, so... yeah. There are higher pools. But not taking anything away from the Wilshire Grand!

^ Jorge was specifically talking about rooftop/open air pools. The Ritz's pool is - as you pointed out - inside one of the floors.

The Wilshire Grand's pool(s) will be on top.
