Well I was attempting to design a house, but sure enough, sketch up started to lag…..very frustrating.

Nothing really to see, just a rough 2-D layout of the first floor. But anyway, I too am excited for the projects that summer should bring. This time of the years is prime time for sketch up activity.

Currently I have 7, which I immediately regretted when I first loaded it onto my laptop. I agree, that sketch up 6 was a lot faster. When I was bigger into sketch up a couple years ago, I used 6 and was very satisfied; almost never ran into any lag troubles. Sure enough, 7 turned out to be nothing but lag.

When I installed Sketchup 7 I thought it would be better and faster. Then I saw Mo's thread about sketchup 7 and saw all the negitive posts about it.

So I still have Google sKetchup 6 on my computer and google sketchup 7.

I have Sketchup 7 and imo it makes better use of hardware. My computer is a couple years old and SU7 is by far the best version I've used so far. Maybe it's time for a new laptop. Prices have come down A LOT and you get more for your money.

I suggest customizing a PC because you get wayyyyy more bang for your buck, but it's a time guzzler and you should know some basic things. I haven't personalized a computer but I kinda want to sell mines and get a new one. My computer is probably around 900-1000 dollars at the moment and for the same price I could get at least 8 gig Ram (right now i have 3), a better processor, at least a 1 terrabyte hard drive (i have 500 gigs right now), and i can get rid of all the unnecessary junk which companies install on my computer!

but anyways, i suggest an upgrade. SU7 is doing extremely well on my computer, i can just imagine how smooth it would run on a newer one!

I contacted Aleks about a new competetion. He said that the last one flunked and did not make it.

I thought of a new system for comps. How about a points system?Like we should have 2 big competetions that could last a while. (maybe like 2months or so?)Those would earn like 10 points, while the smaller competetions could earn 5 points. The winner gets 5 points 2nd-4 points and so on.......Then at the end of the year we could give them a small prize who ever has the most points like:letting them choose the two biggest competitions for the year.
Tell me what you think.

So, I’m removing sketch-up 7 from my laptop and reinstalling sketch-up pro 6. For whatever reason, my laptop handled 6 much better back in the day. If all goes smoothly and the program runs well, expect to see a new city in the near future. I’m off from school for the next three months, so when I have some down time I’ll be able to provide frequent updates.

^ What game is that shot out of, Austin? I can't think of what it is. At any rate, it is actually pretty well-designed, all things considered.

I loved lots of those games from the SimCity 2000 era... like Transport Tycoon, and any number of other "Sim" and "Tycoon" titles which sprung up around that time.

Well after doing a little experimenting with some massing models to test the speed of sketch-up 6, it appears like I should be able to produce a city without much lag trouble (for now at least). So, I’m going to start work on a grid system. I won’t start a thread until there’s a decent amount of work that has been done.

I've been living in Punta del Este, Uruguay working on a project that's still in progress. I had been lobbying and workin on this for the last 2 years but now it's becoming a reality. I can't quiet believe it myself, but I'm in the very early stages of building a small eco hotel in a "Naturist" beach in Punta.

That's a huge reason why I left Sketchup (Actually I didn't I used it to design the hotel, and the darnest thing happened: when I was drawing something that would become a reality, with every pixel costing an actual material price, I blanked out! Like writer's block. Now I'm back at it and will definitely ask for your opinion on this very light structure we're building. PEnding my partner's confirmation.

I'm really happy about this, and now that I'm back in Buenos Aires, I'm taking a break, had been reviewing Mulligan (which I lost the file) and was thinking of , hehe, doing it over.

Love all the new additions to this forum. Good clean cities keep appearing, Pingyao's graced us with his almighty presence, and I've already counted 3 pseudo Objectivists making cities "with a point".

Don't have a desktop computer anymore and my laptop broke so I'm using only a tiny netboook. Still have SK6PRO with all those German tensile plugins and I miss SK5. Dac I guess you're decent with SK7?
