When done, combined with the Kicking Horse Canyon Bridge this will be the most impressive stretch of rural highway in Canada. Just wish the Feds would get a fu***** move on with the Yoho project...
Man this is exciting!
Really appreciate you posting those photos Metro.

Yes - I’ve been hoping for this re-designation for years too.

Alberta uses letter designations for highways as well (eg. 1A, 2A, 11A) although I’m not aware of any Bs, Cs, etc. The ‘A’ designations are placed on the old highways when a new one is built and provide an “Alternate” route to the main highway they share a number with.

Alberta also uses ‘X’ for connecting highways such as 22X south of Calgary. It connects two legs of N-S Highway 22 with the E-W 22X.

I’ve always wondered why MTQ uses an undivided roadway for median HOV lanes further west.
Then the highway’s improved so much that the speed limit should go from 70 kph to 90 kph at least.

Yeah, the bidirectional carriageway for the HOV lanes has always seemed like an awkward design choice. I guess they can get away with it because the HOV lane isn't open to any general purpose traffic, but only buses and taxis.

I miss that weird criss-crossing of lanes beyond Turcot on the 20 where you were driving on the 'wrong' side of the road.

I drove north on the 400 for the first time in a while about a month ago and noticed through Vaughan they upgraded the sections where the HOV lanes merge with the regular lanes. Rather than it just changing to a dashed line, they added short lane in between for cars to adjust their speed. I thought this was a really neat idea, hadn't seen it done before.

Quebec city has got to have the most freeway kilometres per capita of all Canadian metros. Whereas Winnipeg, of similar size, must have the fewest.

Winnipeg has a whopping 0 freeway kilometres, so it definitely wins on that front.

Not entirely true, the Perimeter Highway in Wiinipeg meets freeway standards in some sections where it has Jersey barriers. Other sections it only has concrete curbs like you would see on an arterial, but it's still got a separate ROW.

It is very old though.

We shall call Winnipeg Perimeter Highway a staged freeway.
I wonder if any jurisdictions outside of Ontario really use that moniker though.
