I certainly hope so Rocket. At 39 stories, Tower A looks...well...short.

I know I am getting spoiled when a 39 story tower garners a "Meh" response from me. As a collection however, it is befitting. LOL at your Batman reference.

I also agree, but mainly because I want the frontage on 14th. I think building B would really have to start first or along with C as building C doesn't appear to have it's own parking.

EDIT: It looks like they're bringing the ground down to the elevation of 14th and putting in an underground garage. I don't think we'll see any of those towers go up for a pretty long time with all the site work that will need to be done before construction can start.
When is groundbreaking scheduled to start? Or have they announced a groundbreaking date yet? I love the shape of the buildings. I remember thinking about what they might look like when they were first announced. I had thought to myself it would be cool if they looked like that and that's exactly how they came out. I must be psychic, ha ha.

Some of the details from the ABC story about the 98 14th street project that jumped out at me were:
[*]The $650 million project cost(in 2013 dollars)
The developer is considering retailers like Whole Foods[*]A hotel operator like a "Ritz Carlton or Waldorf Astoria" might be located in the project[*]The developer plans to close on the land on April 30.

I would like to see an operator like SLS ( http://slshotels.com/about-sls/) and a Dean & DeLuca but I'm good with whatever the developer comes up with based on their track record in markets like New York and Chicago.

I wonder why they have the highest portions of building A on the west side of the building instead of the east? You would think that they would want the upper floors to have as much of an unobscured view to the south as possible, thus placing them in the gap between buildings B & C rather than directly "behind" building B as you look to the property from the south. I know if I were buying a condo in the upper floors of the south side of the building that I'd prefer a clearer sight line.

Introducing: Dante's Enlarged, Glassy Replacement

Quote:
A glassy edifice called "Cyan on Peachtree" will soon take shape on ground once occupied by legendary Atlanta restaurant Dante's Down the Hatch. Construction has started on the 329-unit Cyan, which has changed significantly from earlier renderings. The property will include a 23-story residential tower (aesthetically similar to various Novare offerings) and an adjacent, seven-level parking structure, officials announced this week. Earlier plans indicated the tower would rise about 10 stories, with a smaller parking piece. In any case, the project will occupy a prominent slice of Peachtree Road.

798 North Highland Ave.

Possible foreshadowing of a possible project:

Quote:
The renovation of two storefronts in a key stretch of Virginia-Highland is nearly complete, and at least one already has a tenant lined up. The adjoining old theater has a foggier future. Jeff Stein of Stein Investment Group says his firm purchased the building at 798 North Highland Ave. a little over a year ago, hoping to bring the long-empty suites — once home to a Ben & Jerry's, a Starbucks and a movie theater — back to life. Reno work on two of them should be done by the end of this month or early next, and Stein said a bridal gallery is signed up to take one space. They're "in talks" with a few prospects for the second.

Then there's the theater, which sits off the actual road and will be accessible via a hallway between the two main suites. Stein said basic work — electric, plumbing, that sort of thing — has been done in the much larger space, but nobody's quite "figured out what to do with it" yet. The investor's thoughts on its potential were encouraging, though. He called the former theater a "really cool space" and said his firm was into "cool intown real estate" and claimed to be looking for "some type of cool use." Stein is also currently involved in the attempt to bring a $6-million mixed-use project to the Westside Ironworks site on Howell Mill Road.

This would look great even without the tower.

i have to admit i like the brick-fronted section.

i think probably what this city needs is more buildings around the 8 story mark. too many buildings are just short enough (under the 100 foot level) to be eligible for cheaper and less sturdy building materials, and that's what they are doing— check out the amli apartments going up now around O4W park; they are concrete on the first level and shoddy plywood from the second floor up.

on the other hand, you've got huge towers rising up that are built well, but sometimes make the area a little less personal. i would like to see more solidly built, either concrete or steel buildings at around the 7-8 floor level, with retail on the bottom.

the only recent development i've seen planned like this is the condo project being built at peachtree and 7th (where the starbucks currently is). i think that's a pretty cool project and would like to see that style of development replace the "stick-built" developments that are not as likely to stand the test of time.

I know they list the height of the ground at "Varies" in the renderings, but has anyone published the heights of the 98 14th Street towers? Looks like one or both of the two tallest will be right in between 191 Peachtree and the Westin in height. Pretty cool to potentially have a new 5th and 6th or 7th tallest in the works.

Man, a Whole Foods would blow Dean & Deluca out of the water. D&D Is fine but wouldn't be a draw like WF.

You mean these?

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=166320&page=488#9757

They're hard to read but the heights are there. I think about 430, 630, 670?

No, gotta be taller than that to rival One Atlantic Center. The heights used on the renderings are elevation above sea level... I just don't know what they are using for ground elevation. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

1180 peachtree is 657 feet tall so I would say more like 720, 690, and 490 feet tall or so more or less

It looks more like 780,741,490ish to me.

I wouldn't pay much attention to where their crowns are. The base of One Atlantic is quite a bit lower than 1180 because 14th slopes down that entire block. Since the elevation indicates 14th is flat I don't think it's showing their relationship to the other buildings correctly, but I assumed the scale of their heights was correct and that's where my estimates came from.

I don't think that's right. In the elevation only one is taller than 1180 Peachtree.

131 Ponce as of today.

Taken by me.

You can see Emory's building taking shape back there too. I'm really hoping these apartments help this stretch out a bit.
