Beautiful images zoomer! Interesting to see a Gary Oak, I never heard of such a species of tree.

I took these hours ago whilst walking downtown. I was coaxing a coffee in hand for most of them, so I'm surprised the shot came out okay for most of these.
There's supposed to be a condo built here someday...the site has been clear for a while:

This is a side street I never walked down (I believe) until today.

This reminds me of Montreal for some reason...Ive never been there so bear with me for poor judgment:

Speaking of odd BC trees and their are many, does anybody know what type of pine this is? I took this on Porpoise Bay Provincial Campground Christmas 2021? It looks like an alien almost.

/\ looks to be an arbutus tree judging by the barkless branches. They can be short and really branchy, short and sparse if on a rocky hill or tall and slender.

Couple examples from Victoria - the first is a bonus, arbutus and Gary oak trees in one pic

GeneralLee - nice photos again! Good to see the street level view in a way that’s real, and not an over-processed Instagram picture. Don’t get me wrong, many Instagram photos are great, but with a postage stamp size image to impress people on a phone they don’t always do a very good job of capturing the feel and nuance of a place. Especially like this shot:

Thanks zoomer! I liked that composition because you can see some of the older urban fabric that would've been present when the Maple Leaf Gardens was a new structure for its time. And the mural is pleasant too.

Man, those are some funky trees!

I took these whilst walking home from work. The wind tunnel effect going on around Yonge and Eglinton was quite substantial, so I'm surprised some of these shots came out decent. I was using a few settings on my cell phone whilst shooting, mainly messing with WB:

General Lee - what’s the Duke of Kent pub like, have you been there before? Looks old school, not many of those left since the 90’s it seems. Almost makes you nostalgic for the old days of beer parlours, working class pubs or even seedy bars where a guy could spend his welfare cheque (not an autobiography I swear). Nowadays instead of street alcoholics we have meth and fentanyl addicts in zombie like states.

Martin Mtl - nice Montreal set! I have a love/hate relationship with the Marriot hotel. Is some ways it’s ugly and harsh, yet those windows, especially at night are mesmerizing.

Parksville is their northern extent on the island, but the most northern natural grove is on Savary Island.

There are also two pocket groves of Gary Oaks on the mainland of BC, one on Sumas Mountain in Abbotsford and then there are a few scattered in the Fraser Canyon near Yale and Spuzzum.

The Duke of Kent is a local watering hole that's the most traditional pub I can think of in the area. It has more traditional pub fare, as in more based around English cuisine, although I haven't been there in quite some time. It's a nice establishment to have a drink in, but I haven't gone there since before the pandemic.

I'll share another image of the place at night sometime, but not now since I don't want to be spamming this thread with images. The pub itself is surrounded (with other narrow frontaged commercial lots) by two big residential buildings that were finished nearly five years ago, so they're unlikely to be redeveloped into another massive condominium complex due to tower seperation rules.

Gorgeous Montreal set, the character of that city blows my mind.

/\ thanks for the info. I wouldn’t worry about spamming, lol - this thread probably has ten times less posts than the weather one. Would be nice to see fresh daily pics here as well, but I get why people post pics in the weather thread as it feels more like an update on the day/weather. I like discussions on photos and learning more about a city or a neighbourhood, and urban photography tips and techniques, etc. - in a perfect world (or my world!) that’s how this topic could evolve.

Great pics!

Last one is clearly Okotoks and I guess some suburbs to the north.

Beautiful set Rico. I really enjoy your contributions to this thread. That first dozen or so images set a great mood. I like the first one especially because it reminds me vaguely of something you'd see in London, although of course the foreground would be with different architecture. The tower itself, however, reminds me of one of those tower of "flats" they'd have over there.

Shooting in black and white is not going to convince anyone that Toronto has gravitas. These people have government-provided health insurance, after all.

And all of their limbs.

Beautiful set of images Rico!
I like how you can see the bank towers sneaking through the condos in some of those images. The skyline really looks that much better with the mountains behind it too. (The skyline is nice enough on it's own of course)

MonkeyRonin - thanks for sharing RovingEye’s Flickr photos, another excellent photographer I’m now following there.

Rico, also nice to see the Montreal/Vancouver pictures, two great cities. I like the street level shots of Montreal and you got some good vantage point views of Vancouver.

Here’s a recent news story about that washed up sailboat in Vancouver:
