This is a time I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE WITH summersm343. IF THEY CAN PROPOSE BOTH A 35 STORY AND 50 STORY tower on the river in Camden, then the possibilities are endless for Philadelphia. Mixed use projects seem to be the norm however these days. Don't forget BlackRock almost located here before the recession of 2008. I think we could see 2 to 4 towers over 750 feet by 2025 and perhaps one of them will break 1,150 feet. Hopefully at 8th and Market St.

If bullet trains would zip from Boston to DC, the number of high rises would explode in numbers around 30th street station. In the meantime, I'll settle for a few more above 750 ft.

I really hope we see an amazing development at 8th and Market. It would be stunning to have one of the city's tallest in that spot. There are also some parking lots alone vine and North Broad and the old Trump Tower spot on Del Ave that would be visually great for taller buildings.

That's crazy thinking! We'll definitely see another Supertall by 2025, and I don't think that's unrealistic to think at all.

Sorry about my vague and maybe warped thought process concerning super tall construction coming our way anytime soon .

I was referring to Comcast , not " in general " as you stated . The story has taken several turns , and obviously I do not have
access to pre-vied information so just bare with me here for a moment .

Back in the day ..... when it looked like a Time Warner/Comcast merger was in the works and banks and other investors were
chaffing at the bit , I foolishly envisioned a " central core " for center city that might ( in a scaled down version ) resemble a
Rockefeller Center or a Hudson Yard multi build that could contain some six or seven skyscraper / supertall venues that could
have a significant impact on the skyline .

BUT , between loosing subscribers and raising the cost of their product to cover operating costs , it appeared the construction
of anything " substantial " was just a figment of my imagination . The other side of this coin states , as always , the economy
will improve to a point where Comcast will venture into many other fields that could make their product very attractive .
Keeping that thought in my sick , demented little brain , I went out on a limb and wondered , if things improve ( shortly ) than
it could be in Comcast's best interest to go UP a 100 or so feet to absorb that possibility ..... rather than looking for a location
adjoining their present campus where they would invest many, many more millions of dollars .

Hope this explains my insanity .......

Oh , and by the way , if there is another super tall on someones wish list , I hope we don't have to wait ten more years to see it .

Minor quibble, but I think it will be obvious that our city's tallest building will have a roof height that is lower than the 2nd tallest building. The pair are so close together and in the renderings you can see it. As much as I think the tallest building in the city should have the highest roof height, I won't lose too much sleep over it.

I'm not sure how many others have been to the new observation deck at liberty place, but one downside is that the glass can get pretty dirty- and I don't think the window washers can get that high on that building. It may seem like a minor issue, but when you consider what they are charging it's a bit disappointing to see a layer of grime on the windows which was bad enough to actually affect photo quality. Hopefully it's much better after a rainstorm.

You can just imagine the original comcast is 1100 feet.

I remember reading (and seeing photo evidence to support) that one of the Commerce twins was in fact the first to surpass Billy's hat. Can anyone corroborate?

I get what "OuttaHere" is saying, there is a lot of construction going on right now, but its not like we in Philly have super-tall skyscrapers being proposed/built all the time like in NY or Chi. We may not see another CITC-caliber building for a WHILE, it took about 7 yrs for us to get that after Comcast I. I really wish Center City tower came to fruition...

I do believe that One Commerce did get topped off a few months before One Liberty, but was never taller than One Liberty which was under construction at the same time and is a much taller building.

So One Commerce was the first finished building to top City Hall, but there was an under construction building that was already taller (One Liberty).

I'm quite disappointed that this never happened on that site (or Center City Tower for that matter).

Market Street slopes downward towards the Schuylkill River. So even though Commerce Square is taller than City Hall (by 18') it does not reach the elevation of William Penn's hat. I remember them talking about that when Commerce Square was topped off. So technically Commerce Square didn't break the "Gentlemen's Agreement".

For those of you who haven't seen these amazing pictures from Streetdept.com
They're from the new FMC tower construction. The views are absolutely amazing, and so are these pictures.

The height of a building is measured from the ground level to a) the top of a spire, b) the top of the roof or c) the top of the highest occupied office.

if you built a building on a 500 feet high hill you would not include the height of the hill in the building height.
