I agree. I stopped in there during one of my drives heading east. Very cute town.

If the latter, you should try driving TCH along Lake Superior Shore at least once. I saw the Lake back in April 2017 (in a much fuller view than when I went in June 2016); ever since, I’ve felt that everywhere else in Ontario is simply overrated.
I was gonna say. The "trees forever thing" doesn' really apply if you take 17. It has Cabot Trail, Sea-to-Sky highway vibes.

I went through there in August 2018 and it was under construction then. How long is it expected to take?

The contract was awarded in Novemeber of 2020, and construction started I think spring 2021, so I think you may have seen another project along the route.

This is expected to finish in 2024.

Am I right this section was the worst section? If so, it will greatly improve travel through there.

This is the worst section, after this would probably be the Three Valley Gap. No update or plans for construction on that yet, though.

That's going to be a tough one. The valley is so steep that there isn't much in the way of options. Maybe a stacked viaduct cantilevered slightly over the lake to keep the highway away from the rockfalls? Maybe a 3 kilometer or so long tunnel to avoid the worst of it, or even a complete realignment from Revelstoke to around Crazy Creek (30 kilometers). Nothing easy or cheap, though.

Bit of a strange lighting pattern there with alternating left - right then double standards.

How to make highway interchanges even more hostile to pedestrians and cyclists? Doug Ford's Government is up to the task.

Not sure drivers will fare too well either. Introducing more U.S.A. to Canada is never the right move.

Quote:
Ontario's first diverging diamond interchange opens today. Here's how it works

Ontario's first-ever diverging diamond interchange opens to drivers Monday morning, the Ministry of Transportation confirmed.

The new interchange, located at Glendale Avenue and the Queen Elizabeth Highway (QEW) in Niagara, will open to drivers on the morning of Sept. 26.

According to the Ministry of Transportation, the interchange has been installed to reduce gridlock and improve traffic flow for motorists getting on and off the QEW at Glendale Avenue.

It is supposed to accomplish this by reconfiguring traffic lanes to allow for direct access to all four directional highway ramps.

The diverging diamond interchange eliminates the need for motorists to make any left-hand turns when entering or exiting the highway by using a series of interconnected crossover lanes controlled by traffic lights and highway signage.

"A diverging diamond interchange provides easier access and flow for traffic, cyclists, and pedestrians,” the ministry said in a statement to CTV News Toronto earlier this month.

"This interchange design will reduce the number of vehicle conflict points and allow unrestricted access to the QEW."

While diverging diamond interchanges will be new to drivers in Ontario, they have been used in other places, like the U.S., for years. There are currently two diverging diamond interchanges in Canada, one in Calgary and the other in Regina.

The Ontario government held an in-person public education session to learn "how to navigate" the new interchange.

At that time, an animated drive-through video was released showing how Ontario's interchange works.

That'll be fun to watch... An unholy mix of Americans in huge SUVs and half-cut Torontonians heading home after a day of heavy wine drinking. I recall them talking about roundabouts before they went with this idiotic trend.
