J'ai entendu "oh goal!" dans cette vidéo.

Jamais un journaliste français ne laisserait échapper "goal".

Par contre, on the other hand, it's all about "le coach" these days... It seems "l'entraineur" is too old-fashioned.

And "la team" is the new "l'équipe". During these Olympic Games, it was all about "la team France", "on va le faire avec toute la team", etc.

I have several amusing stories about observed interactions with members of the OQLF (who are, without a doubt, the most humourless people in the entire province). Everybody loves the tongue troopers, and their briefcases.

No clue what an oiselet is. I know what an osselet is on the other hand.

As for chien chaud, it's that junkfood item that needs to be discarded. No junk food, no need for a 'chien chaud' translation. Thankfully that junkfood item is unknown here (although burgers and cookies are alas ubiquitous).

In my many years working at McShitties, I might have heard a dozen folks ask for "un Hambourgeois". In my entire time working there, with all of the French-speaking customers, when somebody wanted a cheeseburger, it was called "un cheeseburger", like: "je vais prendre...deux cheeseburger, par example...avec une grosse frite..."

I have actually never heard that one in the wild. Seen it on menus and signs a lot, but never heard it. I thought it was almost a racinette-type thing.

The correct translation would be "mouchards", if we were honest about it. Obviously Silicon Valley doesn't want them to be called "mouchards".

There was also Dévédérom, and of course the ubiquitous "logiciel", not to mention of course "ordinateur" (which was a term coined by a French scholar whom IBM had asked to invent a French term to name the "computers" in French, and he came up with a very clever word for it, to the point it's even used in European Spanish now, as "ordenador", although in Latin America "el computador" is very ubiquitous, but Spain is all "el ordenador" under French influence).

French has usually been rather successful at naming computer things. More recently I've noticed even in America-gaga France where English words are usually adopted without making an effort to design a French word, "ransomware" has been translated as "rançongiciel", and is the preferred term in France. Phishing and hameçonnage are currently fighting it out, and it's hard to say which will prevail.

PS: Staying on topic, my pet peeve at the moment is the epidemic of 'car jacking' (le car jacking, it's supposed to be masculine, don't ask me why). A term absolutely unknown 10 years ago, and now the media almost only use "car jacking", as if they had totally forgotten how it's called in French! Absolutely insane that level of language loss!!
