Unless this rendering is no longer accurate, it looks like it will be retail as well:

http://atlantadev.com/viewpoint-retail-upgrade/

As long as that wall doesn't stay blank it seems fine to me. If it does stay blank that would be unfortunate, but by the look of the wall (white spots) there are changes are on the way.

Correct.

Keep in mind those white spots are new too. Used to be CMU like the rest of the wall. They only recently knocked it out and replaced it with the temporary, what I assume is stud wall.

Someone asked a few pages ago what was going on at P'tree and P'tree Battle...

E. Rivers Elementary School (where I attended in late 70s to mid-80s) is being completely rebuilt. The school had gone far beyond its designed capacity and will come back much bigger to accomodate all of the growth of families in South Buckhead.

FYI - The school is somewhat convenient to the Beltline where it crosses at Bennett St. (where the Art Galleries are near where Micks used to be). I think it would be fantastic if stay-at-home moms began walking their kids to school more via the new PATH once it's built out. I am guessing they would build an extension to the school for just that purpose. I remember riding my bike to school as a fifth grader a few times and I was living in Collier Hills at Tanyard Creek Park (just west of Piedmont Hospital).

This is a great sign for the health of intown living and South Buckhead, in particular.

Up until a week ago I was walking by there daily to work. It's definitely a stud wall behind the white plywood. They're also in the process of building out the plaza / parking area in front. From what I understood initially the plaza area will not be paved, but will use some other material that is more conducive to sharing the space between people and cars.

Portions of 6th, 7th, and 8th are all up for review to be converted to two-way operation. The street was also widened with this in mind during construction of 100 6th street.

The strip mall where Cafe Sunflower is/was (just north of the Peachtree Beltline crossing in Buckhead, on the west side of Peachtree) has been almost completely vacated of retail tenants, and will supposedly be redeveloped as apartments. Anyone have any knowledge of what is going to be built there?

Also, from today's ABC, for the development map:

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/print-edition/2014/03/07/65m-medical-office-project-in-the.html

Quote:
Cornerstone Development Partners and Stein Investment Group want to develop a $65 million, mixed-use medical project in south Buckhead.
The question is can they land a tenant for the project — and who would it be?
The development, called Cornerstone Medical Center, would rise at Collier and Peachtree roads, across from Piedmont Hospital.
The 161,000--square foot building could include 145,000 square feet of medical office space and 16,000 square feet for street-level retail and restaurants. City officials approved the final site plan last month.
I assume this is the lot where the Texaco is?

That stretch of Peachtree through Brookwood is going to feel denser and denser in the coming years. Hopefully infrastructure can cope!

I think it's across the street, where the Chick-fil-A and the package store are now.

yep looks to be the case.. here is more info.

http://www.showcase.com/property/1895-Peachtree-Road-NE/Atlanta/Georgia/9132784

Sounds like entry/exit would be directly across from where Collier dead-ends into Peachtree, to take advantage of the traffic light.

at the bottom of the page in the above link it says first floor retail is fully leased.

there is a link to the brochure PDF in the above page as well. note the Chik-Fil-A included in the rendering, along with a map and a drawing of the site plan. looks pretty fantastic

So it looks like the massive development across from Lindbergh Center is now under construction. I know the neighborhood succeeded in stopping Faqua from putting in a suburban style development with a Walmart. But I have not seen any new renderings or information. Does any body have an info?

The plans have changed since that rendering. Here's a link to an article with an updated design and the reasons behind the changes:

It is retail space set behind a surface parking lot. There's no additional space being built - they're just punching holes in the existing CMU wall on the side of Viewpoint. What was once planned as storage space for one of the future retailers at Viewpoint is now being converted into additional retail space. If you look at page 2 of the marketing flyer for the retail space, you'll see where that "new" retail space on 6th Street is and how it relates to the new surface parking lot. Flyer is here: Viewpoint - Shopping Center Group Flyer

i'm generally pretty satisfied with this block. the parking deck could use some touching up, but honestly this block has been completely 'built out'. i'd love to see this emulated across midtown.

The 8th street 2-way conversion was on this week's NPU-E meeting agenda. If they convert it all, it would be great for connectivity, providing an east-west link all the way across Midtown from Williams to Monroe.

Smile Atlanta Waterworks Park

Hey everyone.

I'm assisting with the efforts to get the Atlanta Waterworks Park re-opened to the public.

One of these things that we desperately need at the moment are pictures of the AWW during the time it was publicly open. Maybe you ran a cross country event, just walked around...anything.

If you have any pictures at all, we would really appreciate you sending them here: [email protected]

I would love for the entirety of 8th to be 2-way. Right now, due to the 2-way portion stopping at Argonne a significant amount of traffic diverts onto Argonne to get to 7th or 5th. Argonne is narrowest of all the avenues in the neighborhood and is really not suited to handle all that traffic.

Just saw this recently from ABC'S ARTICLE:

Neighborhood input important to Inman Quarters

Located in the heart of the Inman Park village commercial district at 280 Elizabeth St. is a $46 million residential-retail project being built on a 3.3-acre site about one block south of the Atlanta Beltline’s Eastside Trail, The Carter Center and Freedom Park.
The mixed-use development to be named Inman Quarters is a finalist in the Mixed-Use/Special Use category in Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 2013 Best in Atlanta Real Estate Awards.
Components of the project, which broke ground last year and is slated for completion in early 2015, include 200 luxury apartments, up to five restaurants and high-end retail shops.

Coca-Cola deal tops for downtown
http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/print...deal-tops-for-downtown.html?iana=ind_cre

Atlanta’s most world-famous brand decided in 2013 to move nearly 2,000 IT employees downtown to create an Information Technology Center of Excellence.
The Coca-Cola Co.’s decision to lease 276,000 square feet for the center at SunTrust Plaza’s Garden Offices is a finalist for Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Office Deal of the Year Award in the 2013 Best in Atlanta Real Estate Awards.
Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) announced in June it had leased space in SunTrust Plaza Garden Offices, a six-story, 651,000-square-foot building located above the garage and food court of SunTrust Plaza. The 1.2 million-square-foot, 60-story office tower is on a block

The city makes a comeback
http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/print...-city-makes-a-comeback.html?iana=ind_cre

After the steepest recession in decades sapped its strength, Atlanta is seeing billions of dollars in new investment in its urban core and the return of its official bird — the crane — to the skyline.
Last year alone, the city’s intown properties, including trophy buildings, mixed-use developments and apartment towers, attracted almost $1.4 billion in new investment, according to data from Real Capital Analytics, a New York firm that tracks real estate deals. That’s the most since $1.9 billion in 2007, the last good year before the market collapsed.
MetLife Inc. just spent more than $100 million to buy ...
